Former Anambra Governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi has stated that Nigeria has all the attributes of a failed state.
Obi made this known on Tuesday at the 4th annual lecture of Freedom Online newspaper in Lagos, with the theme: Nigeria’s Political Indices: Bright or Bleak Future‘.
He opined that the country is suffering from cumulative leadership failure, stressing that poor leadership is the main challenge facing the nation.
The vice presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 elections warned that failure to address the leadership challenges could spell doom for the country.
Obi appealed to Nigerians to elect leaders who are realistic during next year’s polls, stressing that Nigeria must get the leadership question right in 2023.
He said: “We have all the indices of a failed state. What we are experiencing today is a cumulative leadership failure. We are facing an uncertain future. We have everything but we lack leadership, everything can be destroyed by poor leadership which is the problem of Nigeria.
The quality of leadership is poor and the selection process of the leadership is also poor. We have a divided country but we need a leader that can bring Nigerians together.”
