The United Kingdom and European chapters of Afenifere has alleged ongoing plans by some politicians to rig the 2023 general elections in the favour of their party.
The Yoruba socio-cultural group alleged in a statement released on Friday, January 21, that the desperate political office hopefuls are working behind the scene to compromise security agents and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to manipulate the outcome of polls.
Bibian Anekwe News reports that Afenifere made the allegations in the statement issued by its Secretary, Engr. Anthony Ajayi.
According to the Yoruba group, restructuring is the only solution to the current crisis rocking the entire nation.
Afenifere said the country has had enough of desperate and promise failing politicians, adding that such individuals should not be given a chance in the coming elections.
It urged eligible voters to explore the 2023 elections in order to deepen democracy and enhance the frontier of true federalism in the country.
Afenifere’s statement read partly: “We know already that politicians are going to use restructuring for their campaigns, so Nigerians should scorn anyone that will use restructuring as a campaign issue again. They have taken us for a ride for too long.
“They are also banking on palliatives and money at polling units to buy their way into office. They are already perfecting arrangements to compromise security agents and the judiciary including INEC officials to ensure their victory come 2023.”
The group maintained that the idea of restructuring is aimed at making sure that the country has a balanced national development, unity and peaceful co-existence.
Afenifere again urged Nigerians to be ready to vote and ensure that their votes count.
