Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that Nigeria has retrogressed under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the former leader, Nigerian efforts to build a nation has undergone significant decline since 2015.

He stated this on Saturday while speaking at an international forum organised by the Centre for Human Security and Dialogue at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of activities to mark his 85th birthday.

Bibian Anekwe News gathered that the event was attended by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, amongst others.
Obasanjo stated that to restore Nigeria from the decline is not an effort one person or a political party can achieve on its own.

He said: “If in 2015, Nigeria was 75 percent a country and 50 percent a nation, today, Nigeria will not be more than 50 percent a country and 25 percent a nation.

“That’s how bad we have gone down in nation building.”
It is beyond professional and commercial politicians alone. It demands and requires all hands on deck. I mean Nigerians in all walks of life: politicians, community leaders, traditional leaders, religious leaders, diplomatic leaders, leaders in the academia, leaders in all aspects of government life, and leaders in other aspects of civil society.

“As long as we continue to do the same thing over and over again, the result will not be different,” Obasanjo said.

Bibian Anekwe News reports that President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 defeated former President Goodluck Jonathan in the general election.
Buhari also defeated Atiku in 2019 to win his re-election for a second term that will expire in May 2023.
