As we prepare to return to the polls to elect state’s chief Executives and state’s Legislative members on March 18, 2023, there are so many issues which have arisen as a fallout of the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections.
For one opinion are divided if the Nigerian nation is actually ready for a thorough democratic process based on the rule of law. For another, the electorates were largely bullied by propaganda rather than issue based campaigns by both the contestants and their supporters. Fortunately, with the bulk of the citizens getting wiser and largely informed unlike what obtained previously, wisdom prevailed on the side of the electorates in difference to many bare faced propaganda they were fed with.
The good people of Enugu State will be facing a herculean task when they march to the polls to elect a suitable successor for the outgoing Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. No doubt, Enugu State have a rare share of good and interesting individuals jostling for a space at the Lion Building. Though all is fair in love and war as some political scientists will readily agree to, the level of propaganda and bare faced lies being peddled around and especially towards the confirmed Governor designate in waiting, Barrister Ndubusi Mba has been elevated somewhat to an art. It is important however for the people of Enugu State to reflect on the time tested social philosophy which states that in a world of propaganda, the truth is always a conspiracy. It usually takes innate wisdom to discern a ‘Shit’ done in an open field from the one flinged into the field and done into a cellophane bag.
Ndi Enugu, it is important for us as a people to borrow sense and wisdom rather than relish bare faced propaganda against the candidate Ndubusi Mba of the People’s Democratic Party. This admonition will have to be appreciated also in the face of the recent endorsement of the capabilities and competence of candidate Mba by no less a person than the past high performing Governor of Enugu State, Barrister Sullivan Chime.
The erstwhile chief Executive of Enugu State while reviewing the antecedents and the verifiable productivity portfolio of the available contestants for the governorship position in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Enugu State asserted confidently that Dr. Peter Mba of the People’s Democratic Party remains the best among equals and urged every well-meaning electorate in Enugu State to vote for Dr. Peter Mba because there is no need going for the better when the best is available. Barrister Sullivan Chime went further to guarantee for Dr. Peter Mba by staking his life and integrity if Dr. Peter Mba is later found wanting in his reign as the governor of Enugu State if he is voted in.
The well respected statesman and one of the best governors to ever lead Enugu State based his argument on the facts that all the current governorship aspirants in the state were all students of the famed Ebeano political family from time immemorial and that out of the whole candidates filing for the sensitive position, Dr. Peter Mba obviously stands out not just as the most successful but even as the most resourceful personality having recorded outstanding pace in the nation’s number one mainstream economic sector through the towering growth and accomplishments of Pinnacle Oil And Gas which currently enjoys number one position in the highly competitive industry.
Apart from the applause and approvals emerging from different strategic quarters for Dr. Peter Mba’s candidacy, the conscious electorates of Enugu State ought to carry out independent and result – oriented research about Dr. Peter Mba’s humanitarian dimensions which testify to his unquenchable desire to pay back to the society and write his name in the hearts of the people having completed a lot of gargantuan infrastructural edifices even before becoming a governor.
In inference therefore, every patriotic citizen of Enugu State should see the victory of Dr. Peter Mba at the poll as a collective victory of the people and not just as a personal victory because when you ignore a character that really cares for you, you would inevitably realize that you have lost a diamond while you were busy collecting stones.
