There is nothing as heart wrenching as working to add value to your society and be denied ones wages in due time. It is even more disappointing when one has laboured up to sixty years of age and have attained a senior citizens’ status and aught to be luxuriating in peace and total fulfilment for contributing to the growth of his/her society, yet such person is left without a care in the world. For what would a peace of mind amount to without the requisite resources or wherewithal to spend ones fulfilment in retirement?.
Governor Peter Mbah while assuming office in the month of May, 2023 reassured Ndi Enugu of his preparedness to cause positive governance disruption across board. The state of Enugu State pensioners came to a call that in about eight years or thereabout, less than one third of their monthly pensions have been fully paid to the beneficiaries. Having to accumulate over 96 months in unpaid pension is certainly not a nice way to appreciate our senior citizens who may no longer be strong enough to fend for themselves.
Making good his positive assurance to the wide spectrum of pensioners, governor Mba who constituted a Committee to verify pension claims and the number of pensioners affected, took the bold step to fully pay two months of pension arrears with a firm promise to clear up the backlog gradually.
When Governor Peter Mbah’s mantra of our tomorrow coming down today is sounded, we now know better. We understand what Mbah stands for and urge him to continue in this trajectory. Enugu will soar again and our tomorrow is really here.
