US Embassy Reacts To Jerry Rawlings’ Death

The United States Embassy in Ghana has reacted to the death of former Ghanaian president, Jerry Rawlings.

Bibian Anekwe News had reported earlier that the former Ghanaian president died on Thursday morning from suspected COVID-19 complications. Rawlings died at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Late Rawlings led the West African country first as a military ruler and then as a democratically elected president between 1981 and 2001.

Reacting to Rawlings’ death in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, the US Embassy in Ghana wrote: “The U.S. Embassy Ghana was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former President Jerry Rawlings this morning.

“Truly, a great tree has fallen. May he rest in perfect peace. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and to all of Ghana in this time of national mourning.“
