It is the incompleteness of a man that made the existence of a woman inevitable and in our local parlance we tend to believe that a house is not a home until a woman occupies it, so, it would be needless to argue the need for a conscious engagement of the women in the government of the emerging generation. Such philosophical leaning is one of the major inspirations or motivations for the recommendation of a mandatory thirty-five percent affirmative action on women participation in governance. In Nigeria, one of the state governors that has proven to honour and harvest the uniqueness of women in governance is the cool-headed leader; Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the executive governor of Enugu State.
It is the balanced disposition of Governor Ugwuanyi that informed the level playing ground that welcomed robust women involvement in Enugu state government. The recent emergence of Hon. Mrs. Amaka Ugwueze of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in a keenly contested bye election to replace Late Hon. Chijioke Ugwueze who was dragged away from the firm grip of life by the gothic hands of death earlier this year bringing the number of women state legislators to four (all PDP) speaks volume of the people’s sound and enlightened orientation concerning women in leadership.
As we celebrate the latest female legislator in Enugu State, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Ugwueze representing Isi Uzo state constituency, we also appreciate the reality that the Chief Judge of Enugu State is a great woman of substance and a legal colossus in the person of Justice Priscilla Emehelu or have we forgotten that the State Commissioner for Special Duties and SDGs is also great woman of wit and wisdom;Hon. Mrs. Adaonah Kene-Uyawunne ? Before I skip, I wish to remember that state commissioner for Finance is at the same time a woman endowed with both beauty and brain;Hon. Mrs. Agbo Mabel with the amiable Hon. Princess Peace Nnaji functioning as the Hon. Commissioner for Gender Affairs. Hon.Jane Eneh ( chief whip of Enugu state House of Assembly. Of course the list goes on as the philanthropic Gburu Gburu keep creating opportunities that would accommodate more women in Enugu State politics and government.
So, in spite of the fact that Hon. Mrs. Amaka Ugwueze was elected as a worthy replacement for her deceased husband, it is very necessary we pause to ponder without wondering but appreciating a man who understands that need to set pace by delivering even as so many others end up only promising. Certainly, right decisions magnet right applause and I hope it should be archived in the treasury of our political narrative that during the reign of Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi( Mr Fulfilment) as the executive governor of Enugu state, that women were given ample opportunities to make their UNIQUE contributions and they justified their accommodation and inclusiveness.
In inference, as we joyfully enjoin Hon. Mrs. Amaka Ugwueze in celebrating her victory; encouraging her to live up to expectations, we also stand for and with a man whose body language instructs right decisions; Mr. Fulfillment; Odozi Obodo; Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his characteristic right stance in governance.
