It is often the practice of some political leaders to abandon the good initiative of their predecessors in office for no just cause but for naked display of self importance as a new kid on the bloc or simply to discredit the predecessor. Not so with our amiable governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi(Mr Fulfilment)
The Gburu-Gburu of Enugu state have since assuming the headship of state ship left no one in doubt that good governance is and will remain the cardinal objective of the state policy. He has not only initiated people oriented welfarist approach to governance but also religiously committed to the ones initiated by his predecessors.
One of such welfarist approach adopted by past Enugu Governments is the annual free transportation to all Enugu state indigenes living elsewhere in Nigeria. For the past years since coming in as the helmsman of the state, he had kept faith with this annual ritual to help the good people of ndi Enugu to reunite with their loved ones at home who might ordinarily be handicapped to do so owing to financial constraints. Christmas is an important time for family reunion, meeting up and sundry events. Governor Ugwuanyi has overtime affirmed that his government is people friendly and will stop at nothing to put smiles on the faces of ndi Enugu no matter the challenges.
The challenges therefore presented by the novel Coronavirus in late 2019 and which manifested fully in the 1st quarter of 2020 has left the global village with enough pains and losses in human and material gains.
Government across the world even the so called developed world has groaned under the yoke of this pandemic. The developing world is even the worse for it. For the second time in between a space of 2 years, Nigerian government announced officially another round of recession.
The event of Christmas is one that defies economic hardship. People will go out of their way to celebrate it no matter their personal challenges. So people’s expectations of Christmas have often defied all sensible reasoning. So even with the issues of Covid-19 and attendant economic realities, people do not want to mind spending their Christmas holidays in their villages.
Governor Ugwuanyi( MR FULFILMENT) again has risen to the occasion to help those who want to celebrate with their loved ones at home this Christmas by providing free transportation to all the Enugu indigenes living in Lagos, Abuja and other far flung locations in Nigeria.
It was therefore excitement galore as ndi Enugu in Abuja trooped to the expansive compound housing the Enugu state Liaison office in the central business district of Abuja on the 22nd of December 2020 to enjoy the free ride provided by the Enugu state government and powered by the cheerful Gov. Ugwuanyi, Mr. Fulfilment.
Speaking earlier before the departure of the bus ladened passengers that were representatives of various communities from Enugu state in Abuja, the President General of Enugu state indigenes General Assembly (ESIGA) Chief Geoffrey TooChukwu Nnebedum Tabansi under whose platform the home journey for Christmas was coordinated was full of praise for Governor Ugwuanyi calling him God sent and a man to be trusted any day. He also recalled the various past efforts of the governor to support the Enugu state general Assembly in Abuja and prayed God to reward him for his benevolence always.
The general Secretary of the Assembly, Mr. James Ene Nwannaji corroborated the speech of the President. He however clarified that this year’s home journey would have been aborted but the insistence of the cheerful Governor made it possible. He asserted that the passengers were drawn from each of the communities that have identified with the general Assembly and have paid their annual dues up to date. Therefore it is a means of paying these communities back for their loyalty and commitment. Every community belonging to ESIGA has 2 persons each as their representative in the free Christmas ride from Abuja to Enugu, he concluded.
The bus which left on the 22nd of December 2020 have since gotten home in peace to the glory of God Almighty.
And like our governor will say… “It ended up in praise”.
Enugu state is truly in the hands of God Almighty.
