ASUU Warns Senate over plans to buy exotic cars
There are speculations that universities across Nigeria may not resume on January 18 if the Federal Government fails to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
A source which spoke with the Tribune at the weekend disclosed that the Federal Government up till now is yet to pay the December 2020 salary.

The source further stated that though the federal government claimed earned allowances had been deposited with the National Universities Commission (NUC), lecturers are yet to receive the money.
The source which spoke in Minna said, “government should know that it will be difficult for lecturers to resume work without receiving their salary, moreso when other university staff are not being owed.”

It added that the decision if left for the government to play its part by fulfilling its promises.

The source noted that well-meaning Nigerians prevailed on ASUU to suspend the nine-month-old strike.
“The Federal Government should not allow ASUU leadership to hold congress now, hence the problems can be compounded,” the source counselled.

In a related development, the Joint Action Committee, on Friday disclosed that it is set to embark on three-day nationwide protest over the Federal Government’s handling of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, sharing formula of the N40 billion earned academic allowances and non-payment of arrears of the new minimum wage.

The non-teaching staff in the universities further stated that other issues include inconsistencies in IPPIS payment and the delay in the renegotiation of the FGN/ ASUU/SSANU 2009 Agreement.
