According to Brian Tracy, “integrity is the most valuable and respected quality of leadership, hence the need to always keep one’s word.” Another saying has it that there is no smoke without fire. The ocean of love which the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi L. Ugwuanyi is showered with today does not spring from neither the moon nor the sky, rather from chains of multiple show of love, integrity and promise delivery cum his outpour of humility and concern to the poor.
Our people said that “Ihe Onye n’eme ka ekwe n’ akuru ya”. Days ago, tension was created by a bill sponsored by a concerned citizen of enugu state to advocate and seek pension for Enugu State Ex-Governors. I wouldn’t want to slide too deep into the content of the bill, because, it might amount to uncalled regression since I am already fixing an article to tackle major issues raised by the detractors of the bill. What caught my attention most was the governor’s swift move towards taming the tension.
Onlookers could have expected Governor Ugwuanyi to passionately back the bill and possibly lobby the members of Enugu State House of Assembly (ESHA) to ensure that the bill sees light of the day, since it would benefit him after office. But, the People’s Governor, the Peace Ambassador, selflessness made in human form, the governor who thinks less of himself but the poor masses, moved like a wild fire on gaining knowledge of the bill, and have the controversial bill’s throat cut off and its premature life, aborted. I doubt that there is a Governor in the whole of the 36 states of the federation who would see such opportunity and refuse to take cash in on it.
When Enugu state polity was hit so hard by political interest and its accompanying twin sister called tension, the angel in the lion’s building, the Christ-Like-Governor made the safety and security of Ndi Enugu his first priority, beyond the woken political biases, prejudices and personal interest. Governor Ugwuanyi sought for peace, even when he has all the power ascribed to him by his highly elevated office to take certain drastic measures, but, knowing that when two big elephants fight, the grass suffer. Governor Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi is not a politician, he is more a leader than a politician.
The understanding that Governor Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi is loved by Ndi Enugu is the beginning of political wisdom. No wise man would hate a governor who loves his detractors and even powers them. Come 2023, Ndi Enugu will love to support a governor who has delivered on youth inclusiveness in governance, because, “agwo a haghi imu ihe tolo ogonogo”. Come 2023 the people would love to support a governor who has delivered on his promise to empower women and children. Come 2023, ndi Enugu state will support a governor who has successfully made sons and daughters of nobodies to be somebody without having to know anybody. Enugu people will support a governor who has skyrocketed the standard of education in Enugu come 2023. Enugu people will support a governor who has a heart as large as the world itself to accommodate all, both, the rich and the poor, the strong and the weak, the humble and the proud.
