Enugu state government has launched campaign for COVID-19 survivors.

The Deputy governor of Enugu state, Hon (Mrs) Cecilia Ezeilo while performing the launch, said that COVID-19 pandemic has it’s devastation globally, through it’s direct impact on People’s health and indirectly on social and economic development.

She said that the federal government and partners led by the Presidential task force continues to put in place , public health advisory and measures to curb this unprecedented public health scourge in order to limit the effects on human development.

She commended the state government and Enugu state partners who had continued to work tirelessly to treat the patients ,ensuring that the cases were reduced in the state.

The deputy governor thanked God for the lives of the survivors. She said that people who had doubt about the existence of COVID-19 should believe that it is real.

” Before us here today, are those who have survived COVID-19 inspite of the rumours and misinformation surrounding the scourge and despite the general hardship in the country which was further complicated by the Corona virus pandemic.

“They comprise our bold citizens from different walks of life, who were either treated at home , by our experienced physicians as a result of having only mild to moderate symptoms or treated in our isolation and treatment centres having needed intensive care for their severe symptoms.We give God all the glory as Enugu state continues to be in the hands of God.

“I am here today, to endorse the effort to demystify COVID-19, in Enugu state to support the reduction of stigmitization on COVID-19 survivors and to confer on these survivors , the status of COVID-19 heros and heroines of Enugu state,”
she said .

“They will be our ambassadors who will share their experiences with their friends , families and communities and also spread the established public health advisories on the non-pharmaceutical measures , against the spread of Corona virus to their communities”

The deputy governor said the state governor, Rt. Hon.(Dr) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has been supporting the state ministry of health and partners, who had been responding to the pandemic and bringing life back to near normalcy.
She added that the state government, MDAs and emergency structures, example, State multi-committee on COVID-19 have also been championing efforts to provide succour to the citizens especially the most vulnerable population groups with the aim of mitigating the spread of the virus and limiting the untold hardship on the citizenry

The deputy governor highlighted the achievements of the state government during the period as follows: “Ensuring that palliatives reached every nook and cranny of the state.
” The state multi-sectoral committee on COVID-19, galvanized the response to the Pandemic in the area of coordination of ministries, departments and agencies.
” The state ensured the formation of the state’s decontamination team, involving the state fire service and state ministry of health.
” Massive infrastructure input in the health sector in Enugu state has been part of the state government’s efforts to improved healthcare delivery in the state.

” Isolation and treatment centres have been built in all the 3 senatorial zones.
” Enugu now has standing, Ultramodern Infectious Disease Hospital.

“Type 3 primary healthcare centres have been built from scratch with water providers through boreholes ,while other PHC-s have been revatilised through the Save One Million Lives(SOML) program, this touching all 17 Local Government Areas in the state.

“We pledge to continue to do more within our capacity, even as we urge the eligible persons for the ongoing phase one of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout to come forward and get vaccinated at approved centres,” Ezeilo said.

She recalled that, ” Since the onset of the pandemic in 2020, official records ( as at 31/3/2021) show that Enugu State has recorded a total of 2, 287 confirmed cases with 1,923 cases recovered and discharged and 285 active cases, 29 deaths as a result of complications of COVID-19. She prayed that their souls rest in peace.

The deputy governor advised people to continue to adhere to the preventive measures that have been scientifically proven to be affective in controlling COVID-19. These include avoiding crowded areas with poor ventilation , proper wearing of face masks, frequent washing of hands with soap and running water or use of alcohol based hand sanitizers , social distancing and more recently , vaccination.

She thanked the WHO, Red Cross, UNICEF and all their partners for their support.

In his presentation, , the Coordinator Park lane Isolation Centre, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, Dr Okechukwu Ogbodo, highlighted the signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

Ogbodo said that the symptoms were several which includes, Fatigue, Fever, Cough, Shortness of breath, sore throat, lost of smell , Oxygen Saturation in the blood, several respiratory distress, multiple organ failure among others.

“COVID-19 is real and everybody need to be vaccinated and follow up the health experts protocols.”, he said.

The permanent secretary in the Enugu State Ministry of Health, Dr Ifeanyi Agujiobi in his remarks, thanked the medical experts in the state for their selfless service to humanity.

He noted that the event was in celebration of the COVID-19 pandemic survivors.

The permanent secretary commended the survivors for identifying with the Isolation and centre and getting the necessary treatment even in the midst of stigmatisation.

Akujiobi also commended the Enugu State Government for its effort in ensuring that health facilities are on ground for treatment of the pandemic.

Presenting the global and national update, a representative of World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Ada Erinne
said that there ongoing research by the Organisation.

WHO is accessing on-going research on the ways COVID-19 pandemic and several other research are ongoing and we will continue to share update findings.

She noted that as at March 30, 2021, over 127, 000,000 (127 million) case have been confirmed globally.

According to her, 2.7, 000, 000 (2.7 million) death was reported to the WHO and that as of March 29 that 520, 000,000, (520 million) doses of vaccines have administered globally.

Dr Boniface Okolo who gave update on COVID-19 situation in Enugu State said that Nigeria reported its first case on March 27,2020.

He said that, since March 27 that the country have recorded over 162, 641 cases as at March 29, 2021.

The country has recorded over 150, 456 recovery with 2049 deaths.

Okolo who is the Emergency Operation Centre, Incident Managers in the state said that, Enugu State recoded its first case in March 27, 2020.

The state first case happens to be a couple who just returned from outside the country. He said that Enugu State has recorded a total of 2, 287 confirmed cases with 1,923 cases recovered and discharged and 285 active cases and 29 deaths.
