GOV. UGWUANYI, AN UNCOMMON LEADER THAT BRINGS YOUTHS TO THE GLOBAL FRONT THROUGH IT OPPORTUNITIES.
Good leaders are hard to find, and better leaders even harder. It is in view of this that the Igbo adage maintains in their traditional dialect that ‘anya furu Ugo jaa Ugo mma;’ he that sees an eagle should cherish it because such opportunities don’t come easy. Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Executive Governor of Enugu State is an Eagle that has surprisingly gone against the law of nature, always coming handy in times when he is needed.
Enugu State in counting her good leaders will not fail to count Ugwuanyi twice as this outstanding man has written his name on the sands of time proving immeasurably his worth, especially in the affairs of the youths of the state.
Youth empowerment as we know, starts with having faith in the capability of youths. But often times, young people of our generation are labeled as dreamers. Yet, we all know that every great deed was born a dream, one which was believed in and pursued to fruition. This singular quality is what distinguishes Ugwuanyi and a crop of other leaders: he believes in the dreams of young people. This is why youth empowerment has always been one of his notable styles.
Youth empowerment itself starts with education, whether formal or informal, after which those who have successfully passed the period of training are encouraged to take charge of their lives with their skills by providing them opportunities where they can practice these acquired skills. This Ugwuanyi knows so well and has continued to pursue in the niche within Enugu State.
Recall that His Excellency, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on the 18th of March, 2021 inaugurated the new Technology Hub and Youth Innovation Centres established by his administration to systematically prepare the youth of the state to become competitive in the national and global space, in line with the emerging digital economy. This in no small measures justifies the leadership pattern of this exemplary leader, the pattern of ‘teach them how to fish, and give them a river to fish in’.
Having been built to 21st Century standard, the Tech Hubs and Youth Innovation Centres will be able to offer services such as ICT training in Software Development, Website design/Hosting, Linus/Unix systems, Graphic Designs, Internet of things (IoT); including services in craftsmanship and fabrication, entrepreneurship development, innovation programmes, career enhancement initiatives, electronics/robotics, facilitation of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), among others. This way the large numbers of youth who graduate from different science and technical colleges and tertiary institutions in the state will have a place to begin with while bettering their lives and the economic condition of the state.
Tim Nyieuke of Ghana did not mince words when he said that a world of empowered youth means young people who are not employment seekers after school, but entrepreneurs who create employment for themselves and their generations. This of course will guarantee a civilized society of peace and tranquility, the kind His Excellency has always labored to build out of Enugu State.
