It is highly desirable to have manna fall from heaven these days. But this manna, will fall for those who cultivated manna farms on the clouds above. In other words where you sow is where you will reap.
Most occupants of elective positions especially in Nigeria are considered habitual promise breakers and more often than not renege on their campaign promises after securing the mandate of the electorate. This ugly trend notwithstanding had fueled and deepened distrust, nonchalance and apathy among the electorates.
Democracy opened up spaces for political debates and contestations, especially around elections that take place at federal, state and local government levels. It is important to pinpoint that elections are essential in a participatory democracy and therefore a tool for good governance. During electioneering campaigns politicians spend humongous resources to contest in an election. Citizens on the other hand spend hours queuing under the sun to get accredited to perform their constitutional duties. The same electorates wait for their votes to be counted to ensure that they are not shortchanged in the votes counting. Some even police the results from the polling to collation Centres. After all these efforts by the electorates, the least they require from their elected representatives is service. Ironically, most of the electorates save for close political allies ever get to have access to their elected representatives. This is in view of the fact that these elected politicians have before their ascedenncy to their exalted positions opened their doors wide open, interacted with the people, promise heaven on earth and do all sorts of human relations all in a bid to appear good in the eyes of the people to secure their mandate.
Nevertheless every day we all have choices that need to be made. These choices, the decisions between right and wrong have more serious consequence when the wrong choice become the most preferred or are made.
Fortunately, the past wrong choices of Ndi Enugu after years of testing the waters were obliterated following the emergence of Rt.Hon Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi as the legitimate winner of 2015 Enugu State Gubernatorial election. Unarguably, Ugwuanyi has been a great choice and the best experience for Ndi Enugu over the years.
From the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State the people spoke conspicuously with their votes and entrusted on Rt.Hon Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi the responsibility of rendering selfless service to our dear state. Also joined in the endorsement and solidarity were 21 political parties in the state and conglomerates of political big wigs.
The record of the 2015 general election and that of 2019 was a great testimony that governor Ugwuanyi was clearly the choice of Ndi Enugu. The conspicuous margin between Ugwuanyi’s 482,227 and Mr Okey Ezea of the APC 43,839, in one of the elections can not be glossed over. It was an electoral tsunami that hit the deck of his closest rival in the election.
Gov. Ugwuanyi tsunamic victory during 2015 Guber poll was somewhat a kismet which ushered in chances for advancement and rebirth in Enugu State.
Today, with Gburugburu on the saddle Enugu State is fortunate to be reaping the dividends of democracy accruable from choosing the right leader a political and an economic emancipator, a beacon of transformation, a conscionable captain and a dependable father.
