His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu state, Rt Honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is unarguably one leader who takes pleasure in leading from the front. A leader is known by his or her ability and capacity to lead his or her fold in matters of critical importance without as much as minding personal comfort. Leadership gurus have consented to the fact that Leaders are made and not born. But I’d like to submit that there are still exceptions to this assertion. Some leaders are born. Leadership qualities such as clarity of vision, courage, passion and humility are innate in some individual leaders. When one’s actions creates a legacy that inspires others to dream, learn, do more and become more, then such person must be an excellent leader according to leadership experts. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is an excellent as well as a genuine leader who equally delights in molding consensus of opinion.
Late yesterday, the 13th day of May 2021, there was a fire incident at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, located at Obollo Afor in Udenu Council Area of Enugu State. INEC is a critical organ of the government saddled with the responsibility of organizing elections into political offices in the country and so any untoward incident towards this organ is bound to elicit variegated emotions and sentiments from vast population of the citizenry. As a capacity and proactive leader, Governor Ugwuanyi when informed about the raging inferno at the local INEC office located about 50 kilometers north of Enugu from the seat of the government house, did not waste time to mobilize to the venue of the incident. It must be emphasized that the Governor got to the INEC office in Udenu Local Council Area few minutes from 12am of Friday, the 13th of May. This is what is required and demanded of a capacity leader. Ugwuanyi was able to mobilize to the venue of the incident far away from his location because as analysts would put it, “a good leader does not need promptings to do the right thing”
Again what leader would stay awake into the night working to ensure the good of the people if not the one who crystallizes leadership qualities and has energy and capacity to work round the clock not minding his personal safety and comfort. This is Ugwuanyi we are talking about. His kind is truly rare!
It is instructive to note too that contrary to insinuations in certain quarters especially from mischief mongers who would readily attribute all negative happenings to the government or its agents, the fire incident was said to have caused by power surge in the building housing the INEC office. According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the authorities of the police in Enugu and made available to newsmen stated that the fire outbreak may have been caused by power surge due to sudden power supply to the building while it pledged to continue with the investigation with a view to ascertaining the actual or remote cause of the unfortunate incident.
It is heart warming to note too, that no single life was lost in the incident and that the inferno was actually put out before it could spread uncontrollably following the intervention of the state of the art fire fighting equipments deployed by the equally active personnel of the State Fire Service located in Udenu and Igbo-Eze Council Areas and efforts of other critical stakeholders and the general public. It is good to know that governor Ugwuanyi as a visionary and a workaholic leader is activating work mode in virtually all segments of state’s critical areas.
Who dare to contest that Enugu state is not truly in the hands of the Almighty God? Thank God for this rare gift to our state. To God be the glory forever and ever in Jesus name, Amen…
