There was an inspiring need to feed fat the other day 11th May, 2021 but alas incidents of guttersnipe world where my kind dwell would always suffice to scuttle sheerest opportunity to make merry when epochal events do unfold. I can’t help it, Nigerian economic epilepsy coupled with cancerous putrefying political system synergize to deprive commoners a bottle for reprieve and celebration when things of probable impossibilities suddenly finds ways of actualisation.
In the recent history, Nigeria suffers plagues of unquantifiable scale. If your memory serves you right mine has failed in keeping count of deaths registered on daily basis. The human atrocities are just too heart-rending for mentioning. Media handlers either kill the news in the bud or purvey spins in fear of courting Presidency itchy nose to snuff out dissenting voices. We have been browbeaten and bamboozled into pulps, hopeless mannequins.
The commanders of our collective fate are juncketting unruffled while innocent blood irrigates the accursed geographical entity called Nigeria. We have degenerated to a point where every man is trigger-happy at any slightest provocation even when none was offered to assailants. As it stands, anyone with a rifle is on compulsory mission to harvest souls.
For years, now we miscarried eastern Governors taciturnity for weakness. We taught they were partying with people whose legs are inflexibly fixed on our bent necks. They have been trenchantly been pilloried by some who conceived selfish lucre and crave for power as the Governors malady while people’s life are at stake. No! They are wrong, we were all wrong.
It’s a thing of surprise, very unusual of what we routinely hear of a “Handshake across the Niger”. Here, the hand-bough was retracted into the Niger. The Southern Governors must have contemplated Enugu State as Forum Convenience for such a declaration but for ASABA which now enjoys port of call status. The summit took away despondency and despair which has overtaken the airspace since this year calendar began to run it’s course. Words of the communique thrusted hopes into many souls and extinguished depression. This recent history Summit couldn’t have come easily without the diplomatic savvy of the two IFEANYI’S of Enugu and Delta State which the later played host to the Governors attendees. When chips are down great leaders stand with the people despite all odds and super pressures to armstwist them by the overarching dictator.
What’s more, realization of power in the unity of purpose against common enemy would save the cat. A strand of broom presents little difficulty to a toddler to crush but a bunch would cost a lots of days to break by an adult. How surprise that after years of round-tripping and romancing with the truth, national question of validity of our peaceful coexistence trails back to that eternal qualification proffered by the Late.IKEMBA NNEWI when he said our unity should not be that of Jonah and the belly of a Fish.
Of the most thought provoking and power laced paragraph of the said communique run as follows, “the Governors recommend that in view of widespread agitations among our various peoples for greater inclusiveness in the governance arrangements, the Federal Government should convoke a National Dialogue as a matter of urgency”
Obviously, they couldn’t have demanded less the expectations of the people whose mandate they wield. They intrepidly damned the consequences given their rightous position. Surely, the urgency is now not tommorow nor any other day. Whoever is nearest to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi should assure him that Ndi Enugu are in the same page with him on this campaign to reclaim our land from marauding terrorists and their cohorts. As a well bred and courageous leader of note, Ndi Enugu would not expect less in matters of execution of the letters of these resolutions. So be it! Enugu remains firmly in the hands of God.
