The joy of the Lord says the Good Book is my strength so is Governor Ugwuanyi’s strength too. That governor Ugwuanyi is steadily making progress in the governance of Enugu State is no longer news but all the glory and honor should be handed to Almighty God whom Ugwuanyi rightly chose as his backbone and guide in the discharge of his mandate. Many interest groups in and outside the country have been emphatic in their declaration that Enugu state remains one of the most prosperous, transparent and accountable states in Nigeria and that the state has the character to manage limited and scarce resources in Nigeria.
Enugu state has been made home for all. Visitors are delighted with immeasurable infrastructural developments and social amenities put in place by Ugwuanyi’s administration especially in rural communities. The new face of COLLIERY hospital in Enugu, the Unity Park behind Okpara square, The new state secretariat in Nsukka, the newly constructed Nsukka township stadium, the newly constructed luxurious bus-stops across the city of Enugu, the ongoing flyover at Nike road junction, etc. speaks volumes of Ugwuanyi’s good governance mode in the state.
Ugwuanyi has packaged the state as the most environmental and business friendly state in Nigeria. This much was collaborated by both local and foreign interest groups who have had cause to visit the state on fact finding mission. The records are visible to all discerning minds.
Even and equitable distribution of projects, social amenities and academic institutions across the three major zones of Enugu state has been the watchword of Ugwuanyi’s administration.
Governor Ugwuanyi has moved above tribalistic sentiments in his choice of appointments and employment.
Ugwuanyi was the first Enugu state governor to appoint his chief of staff outside his political zone or kindred. Former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani appointed his chief of staff from his own local government of Nkanu West, while Deaconess Ifeoma Nwobodo was also appointed by former governor Sullivan Chime. Ifeoma Nwobodo is a sister to Barrister Sullivan Chime from Udi local government area. But Chief Dr Festus Uzor was neither from Ugwuanyi’s local government nor from his political zone but he appointed him as his chief of staff. This is awesome indeed and gave Ugwuanyi away as a true cosmopolitan leader and one who believes in “Akidi ama oke ani”(Akidi is an Igbo root crop that is not bound by the confines of land border). Ugwuanyi is succeeding because he believes that things can only get better when we as a people eschews ethnicism, clannishness and nepotism in all ramifications. And as people called to serve, bringing only blood relations to serve in government only succeeds in alienating vast majority of the people who elected the leaders in the first place. And as one is open and transparent in government, he or she has nothing to be afraid of when such leader searches far from his immediate constituency for competence and integrity. These seem to be the secrets of Ugwuanyi’s philosophical trajectories which he amply employed while steering the ship of Enugu State.
It is this same philosophy that has enabled him to initiate equitable development across all the rural communities. He ensured that his policy of one community, one project is achieved across all the autonomous communities in Enugu state. All the rural communities benefited from this singular initiative by the Ugwuanyi led administration which in turn has helped reduce rural-urban migration. Good road networks, medical health care services , pipe-borne water and other social amenities are now witnessed as never before in the rural areas courtesy of MR PROJECT, HIS EXCELLENCY, RT HON IFEANYI UGWUANYI.
Also, Ugwuanyi’s love for transparency, quality and standard work, is making him to succeed in all ramifications. Putting round pegs in round holes. No wonder he handed over the employment processes at Enugu Water Corporation to DFID to enable the state get the best, appropriate and qualified manpower for the job openings. The governor in pursuit of excellence in the water sector took the bold step to engage only capable hands and quality resources that would change the narrative of perennial water shortage in Enugu for good.
Governor Ugwuanyi is succeeding because he is also a workaholic par excellence. He works very tirelessly, making sure he monitors and supervises every ongoing projects with all the seriousness they deserve.
Recently an Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) encouraged Governor Ugwuanyi for showing diligence to duty and demonstrating great empathy to people’s safety, with an award of Covid-19 Response Champion The award is well-deserved following his sterling performance in the management of COVID19 pandemic in the state. The group’s gesture was a clear demonstration of the notion that whatever one is doing is duly noted by men and God. Greater award in form of greater responsibility in the Nigerian state sure awaits governor Ugwuanyi. Almighty God and the people are surely keeping tabs on Ugwuanyi’s many trajectories.
