Historically, apart from being the capital of the old eastern region, Enugu as a coal frosted state, became a preferred abode for the comfort-seeking Easterners and other nationals, who throng to the everly peaceful state to seek for socio-economic achievement and satisfaction.
Scientifically, an ailment discovered at the developing stage, can easily be addressed and stemmed from metamorphosing to a devastating level. It is never a goodnews for an average easterner who is naturally endowed with hospitality bent to experience insecurity which unfortunately, had found a breeding space in the region, in the form of kidnapping, arson, armed robbery, thuggery, violent agitation and other forms of criminality.
The aforementioned, uncivil actions informed the need to engage in wider search for alternatives through consultations and deliberations which would help stem and address security challenges bedeviling the south east, a region adjudged in the past, as the most peaceful, suddenly became a hot bed for insecurity.
It is on record that Gov.Ugwuanyi led government, had attracted a great deal of strategic security summits to the state and still counting. The resolutions and communique issued after such summits have always become a reference point and a working instrument, used in solving contemporary security challenges and other issue based assignments.
On the 19th day of June, 2021, the Governors, Ministers, as well as leaders of various political, religious and traditional institutions in the south east region, gathered in the capital of the old eastern region, to deliberate and at the same time, formulate a formidable regional security framework aimed at confronting major security challenges ravaging the region.
This is coming after a timely visit and consultation was made by the Presidential delegation. The epoch-making and strategic event, equally featured the presence of all the South East Governors, the Security Chiefs, the Defence Minister, Rtd.Maj.Gen.Bashir Magashi, the former Governor of Osun state and the current Minister of Interior, Chief Rauf Aregbesola, top-ranking military personnels including political big wigs in the south eastern zone. The focus of the security meeting was to chart the way forward and bring to bear an enduring and result oriented deliberations that would help, forestall the escalation of criminal activities in the region.
Recall, that at some time ago, a security meeting was organized in Enugu. A South East Geo-political Zone Security Summit with theme” Strategic Partnership for Effective Community Policing in the South East Geo-Political Zone” , had as key participants, South East Governors and the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Adamu Abubakar Rtd.
Following the recent outcry, made by the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Muhammad Matawalle
which he revealed that all efforts ranging from government’s peace interventions , amnesty packages and extension of olive branch to the terrorists and bandits, had not yielded any positive results, rather, these hands of fellowship, had turned a combustible, for the burning fire. This assertion from a State helmsman shows that insecurity has eluded most of the leaders in Nigeria with an exception of Gov.Ugwuanyi and few others who had shown onerous and ebullient commitment in the fight against insecurity.
What is the way forward for the nation which had in the years back, according to World Terrorism Index, attained a high level rating, as a Nation with zero terrorist activities but today, continues to feature frequently, in the International Terrorism chart, as one of the most terrorised nation in the world?
It is biblically stated, that peace comes to those who desireth peace and it’s fruits he enjoyeth thereof. And as Gov.Ugwuanyi’s magnanimity in peace seeking and keeping, continues to place the State on the glorious path of fortunes and progress, we are sure to harvest in years to come, good fruits which are products of his sagacious administrative skills.
It is equally, imperative to note that , Enugu, a State committed into the divine hands of God, have indeed, found sustainable peace vigorously made possible through a divine informed direction of our ebullient leader, Gov.Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi.
Notably, in no small amount, had Gov.Ugwuanyi received wider accolades and solidarity support from socio-cultural groups, churches, civil society organizations, heads of military and para-military outfits, Trade union groups, Market unions, Interest groups, traditional rulers and various town union executive, for pioneering in various capacities, numerous security meetings, summits and other task intensive assignments, whose positive effects has brought us to an unquenching limelight.
In conclusion, the choice of Enugu, as the most suitable for security summit and meeting, had continued to remain unchallenged thus, may not be far from the accommodative trait and the doggedness exemplified in the first-hand and result-yielding approaches, Gov.Ugwuanyi had been employing in order to stem the tide of insecurity in the State.
