In the six years gone by in the life of governor Ugwuanyi’s led administration, Enugu State has gone from being a symbol of urban disorder to a widely cited example of effective leadership anchored on good governance initiative through intense rural-urban development and unprecedented political harmony and peace which attracted investors in the State. The Enugu State government had achieved great heights in the area of boosting the Internally Generated Revenue through the application of innovative reform ideas for tax payment and other revenues of government which resources is largely being used to restore basic infrastructures, expand public services and other developmental ingredients in addition to the accruable federal allocations.
Observations from the economic growth indices suggests that reform commitments in Enugu State is driven by the introduction of digital economy through knowledge based economic reforms of the current administration to boast efficiency and effective interaction in the production of goods and services in the State. The selection of experts and professionals to man various ministries, agencies and government parastatals aided the construction of an orderly and prosperous Enugu State of our collective dreams.
It must be mentioned here for emphasis that some of the economic reform policies initiated by the current administration includes the financial discipline and blocking of leakages which put to a stop the diversion of public funds by public officials and the prudent management of public resources for the good of the citizens. This avowed reform strategy resulted in the steady progress witnessed both in the Rural and Urban areas development.
Other political reform strategy of Ugwuanyi’s administration is the establishment of MOT to compliment the efforts of the Police Traffic Unit in the State in traffic control and monitoring. The formation of this unit has reduced reckless packing by bus drivers in some major roads in the metropolis which have often resulted in a traffic gridlock in most cases and had averted road traffic accidents which such indiscriminate packing could have resulted to. The operation of MOT is also a good source of Revenue generation to government from those who violates the traffic laws.
In the six years of the current administration, the Enugu State government most significant institutional advances came in the recent passage of the bill seeking for the financial autonomy of the State legislatures made possible as a result of the cordial relationship which exists between the three tiers of government in the State. In the same vein, the canonization of Political Culture of Peace and Dialogue brought an unprecedented political harmony through social cohesion and integration in the State. This has reduced ethnic tension, religious bigotry and sentiments that have characterized our existential history today.
These reforms was made possible because we have a passionate and diligent leader who is determined to change the narrative of a state who was on a decline in status among the comity of other progressive states. Many domestic and international observers attributed the uncommon relative political peace and security enjoyed in the state to the leadership style of the governor of Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. He has never left anyone in doubt as an advocate and embodiment of peace which virtues stimulates economic and political well-being on all levels.
His Excellency, the governor is widely perceived as a peace maker and a nationalistic leader, yet so spartan and ever willing to elevate good governance over politics of acrimony and prejudice and ensure that critical sectors of our economy are harnessed including human development.
