As the 2023 general elections draws closer, the political class are up again from their trenches and firming up to engage in their unending game to clinch one political position or another. It is always a game of wits among the politicians who struggle to outwit one another to gain public acceptance and ultimate political victory. Though the flag is yet to be lifted on campaign activities, there has been subtle moves by politicians with political ambition to reach out to the electorates either by themselves or their agents. They would have suddenly became as meek as the lamb and like puppies in a typical household, they will shrug their hair skin against the householder and waggle their tails to curry the attention of their keepers. It will no longer matter if the house keeper is as wretched as the legendary church rat, the “politicians puppies” would appear as the best humble animal species in the world. But they remain as cunning as the tortoise and as deceptive as foxes. During electioneering campaigns, the puppies politicians would even appear more meeker and more feeling as if they belong to the set of twins which Jesus never had. They would promise the housekeepers impeccable security of their lives and properties. They would agree with the housekeeper that things had indeed gone awry in the land and one of the things they would determinedly ensure when their housekeeper thrusts power to them is to change the narrative for good. Most of these puppies had everly remained clueless as how they could change the narratives after gaining political power. They are desperate to grab power and therefore, they would appear to be on the side of the housekeeper and would promise to supply their homes with honey and milk, they would build castles in the sky and nests on the trees for birds of the air. It does not matter, if they would be able to fulfill these promises as long as people are convinced of their deceptive looks and vote them in, the future will take care of itself.
Citizens have often watched their once meekly politicians who promised everything but their lives to the electorates turn around to show their true color as soon as they gain political powers. The once meekly politicians would suddenly turn into lord of the manor and would begin to dispense political favors to whom they fancied. The welfare of the people would no longer matter. No one gets to see them flesh and blood once they ascends their throne. Gradually, trust deficits begin to creep in against hope. There are indeed hardly contemporary politicians who have not betrayed the trust and confidence of the electorates via their unfanciful trajectories in governance.
Curiously, a politician has arisen in this part of the globe, specifically in Enugu State where one man has refused to be associated with everything that defines a politician and the political class in our clime. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State would have truly grabbed an Oscar in this regard. It remains to be seen how one man dared to be different in this 21st century. It may not be a matter of argument that Rt. Honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi while wagging his tail to his housekeeper to send him on an errand to rediscover Enugu State has not only gone on this assignment but dusted many of the programs scheduled to take place during the assignment. Even, while his duration for the assignment is yet winding down, he is yet showing no signs of fatigue. Even when he knows that he will not live in the Lion House beyond 2023, he understands that the best legacy to bequeath to his householder is to remain faithful till the end. Haba! Which politician does that?
To affirm his continued faithfulness to his householder, governor Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi recently stepped up his administration’s resolve to develop the rural communities through the deployment of government services to create fair and equal opportunity for every willing citizen of the state to create wealth, enjoy democracy dividends and live a healthy life. This time, sports development at the grassroots level is featuring on his template aimed at discovering and nurturing young talents for job creation, socialisation and unification, as well as economic emancipation. At the inauguration of a standard-double Lawn Tennis Court, at Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area Stadium, Ogrute, Enugu Ezike, the governor through his Special Adviser on Project Development and Implementation (PDI), Engr. Dr. (Mrs.) MaryRose Obiageli Abba, described sports as an important social phenomenon in all levels of modern society that has the ability to socialize, unify, prevent and reduce a large number of diseases as it is the most important means of enhancing human health, physical development and improvement.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi by this action suggests that he is not only a sports lover, but one who understands that sports have enormous potentials to improve the physical and mental health of the people and citizens would not have to commute to the city where these facilities are available before they can engage in robust sporting activities. Truly, governor Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi is a committed and faithful servant leader we can trust. May his kind come the way of Enugu State.
