The popular saying that Prevention is better than cure will always hold true because when the actual cost for the cure of an ailment is weighed against the cost of preventive measures against such an ailment, there is always a humongous comparative advantage. It is equally important to plan against eventuality because those who fail to plan should be ever ready to welcome failure.
It would be admitted however that natural disasters are one of a kind. A kind that leaves victims traumatized for a very long time. No one might be able to prevent a natural disaster from happening or when it wishes to come, but one might take all necessary and adequate measures to bulwark or mitigate the impact of such disasters on the environment and people.
It is quite instructive too that while his Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is expanding infrastructural horizon in the state, he is equally home with preventive measures to ensure that the infrastructures do not suffer unnecessary damage or natural disasters. We must all applaud the governor for initiating programs aimed at instructing citizens via robust seminars and workshops on how to cope or prevent disasters like fire from happening to public facilities. The visible efforts of the Enugu State Fire Service to train and equip the students and their staff on fire safety is highly regarded. It is important to note that the State government, through the STATE FIRE SERVICE has already completed the first phase of the training across all the secondary schools in the state. This training is not just to help the school children and their teachers to learn how to fight fire at school, but to educate them on how to be security conscious when it comes to fire outbreaks even in their respective homes.
The first phase of the workshop has been conducted and concluded, with an installation of fire extinguishers and enlightenment of how to use the fire extinguishers in 18 secondary schools across the state.
The Humble White Lion through the state Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa, promised to extend this training and workshop to all the schools in Enugu state. This was made public during an installation and training exercises at St. Theresa’s College Nsukka.
This program should be noted as a clear manifestation of the government’s efforts at safeguarding the lives and properties of the citizens and public facilities in the State.
The Chief Fire Officer of the state Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa had equally commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi’s steadfastness to actualize his administration’s Zero Fire Outbreak Campaigns.
The students and staff of the benefitting schools are now charged to apply the acquired knowledge in any event of fire outbreaks.
The citizens of Enugu are truly happy with the activities of the workaholic Governor especially in safeguarding lives and properties in the state.
Enugu State is in the Hands of God!
