The former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama was emphatic and rightly so when he posited that it is a wasteful venture to embark on a search for Mr or Mrs. Right Leader when we ourselves have been designated to make the much needed positive difference in our environment. Though we might be born differently with diverse potentials, we are born equally. Obama therefore forcefully argued that the change we seek will not or will never ever come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we are actually waiting to see or have. This assertion howbeit evidently clear seem to have taken a long walk from our poli-historical trajectories, but one thing has remained as certain as the northern star, the change agents we seek is in us if we can contribute our little quota and in a meaningful way for the benefit of our society.
This too will assume the position of the workaholic Governor of Enugu State who have remained an unrepentant change agent Ndi Enugu have experienced in recent time. As would be expected, Ndi Enugu are daily enamored and inspired by the trusted leader of our time holding forth in the Lion Building. Drawing inspiration from this uncommon change agent exemplified by Gov. Ugwuanyi, Chief Evarest Nnaji, Aka Odengene an outstanding entrepreneur and prominent son of Nkanu land took up the financial burden of the construction of the 5. 4 kilometer road which dovetails to Amagunze/Amechi Idodo/Oruku bridge. As an apostle of rural-urban infrastructural development, His Excellency wasted no time identifying with Odengene who have decided to use his God given resources to bring succour to the inhabitants of Amagunze and her neighboring clans. It would be recalled that the forces of nature via flood have effectively ravaged the 5.4-Kilometre stretch of the road under intervention thereby pushing the citizens along this corridor into untold hardship. In the realization that the world could only become a better place if we live our lives in the services of one another, Chief Evarest Nnaji took up the gauntlet by putting his resources down. Again, it must be noted that no one has ever become poor by giving to charity and philanthropy. There might have been so many Odengenes scattered around the state of Enugu and there might have been so many of such life sapping challenges facing rural communities, yet those who have received God’s blessings in triple measures would have decided to keep their resources for themselves and their families rather than use that to help their folks. Their warped thinking would always throw up such mundane mindset that it is the sole duty of the government to cater for the people. Good! But it could not be argued that even in the developed economies of the world, that government of those economies have been able to meet up effectively with the yearnings and aspirations of her citizens not to talk of our own clime, where economic fortunes have been on a steady decline without yet an effective blueprint to arrest the trend. It has become an acceptable practice in the global economy to involve private citizens in the task of community building and development leading what is commonly referred to as Public /Private Partnership (PPP).
It is gladdening to note that governor Ugwuanyi so thrilled by the prospects of having to get some financial respite from Chief Nnaji’s gesture also announced that his administration will intervene on the Agu Eduma Aniyi bridge across the river linking Amagunze-Amechi Idodo-Oruku, in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state also affected by the flood while flagging off the project construction of the 5.4-Kilometre Amagunze asphalt road, being solely funded by Chief Evarest Nnaji also known as Odengene.
It is important to note that the Mayor
of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Engr. Abel Uchenna Nwobodo have been able to confirm what many know of Ugwuanyi as a man who have remained unrepentant about his desire to bring the rural communities up to date with what is obtained in the city conclave. Revealing Ugwuanyi’s many infrastructural developments in the Nkanu East Local Government Area, Hon. Nwobodo disclosed that Gov. Ugwuanyi upon receiving reports about the wrecked Agu Eduma Aniyi bridge immediately directed him to visit the site alongside team of competent engineers with the aim of ascertaining the true situation for necessary action.
Governor Ugwuanyi was also reported to have made several intervention efforts in the council area such as the rehabilitation of the bad portion of Nkerefi road, the Amechi Idodo road, and the Amagunze LGA Secretariat road. Others include the 40-meter concrete bridge along Ugbawka-Nara road and the 40-meter concrete bridge along Nara-Nkerefi-Ebonyi State road.
One thing is clear and which also cannot be controverted by right thinking citizens who would elect to keep politics aside that the accomplishments of the performance driven and oriented Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi remain unprecedented in the history of the state. As the 2023 general elections steadily draws closer, the prayers on the lips and hearts of every Nigerian who have the good interest of this nation is that an Ugwuanyi should happen to the entire scape of this country. Nigerians surely need him to raise the dying giant. So help us God, Amen.
