As the 2023 general elections draw near and the permutations as to who would be the next occupant at the Lion Building hots up, the agitations in the minds of the citizens is who would God ordain to step into the big shoes Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who would be leaving behind?. Would there ever be a selfless leader in the mould of Ugwuanyi in Enugu State? Would there be a leader so committed and passionate about serving the people in spite of all odds?. Would there ever be a leader so prudent, yet extravagant in the pursuit of developmental goals to better the lot of the citizens?. Would there ever be a leader so humble and exudes confidence in the midst of challenges of governance?. Would there ever be a leader ready to build bridges of understanding among the political class to engender economic and societal growth?. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is truly a sensational revelation within the six years he has called the shots from the seat of power. Ugwuanyi has so many attributes and qualities fused together as a colorful leader in the contemporary period. While Ndi Enugu is better for it, Nigeria would surely gain more if he finds himself near the corridors of the nation’s seat of power in Aso Rock Villa.
Beyond these adulations which Ugwuanyi deservedly deserves, the governor comes away as one who might have set a benchmark in the governance of the state and which might be very difficult to obliterate in the near future. I am not unmindful of the fact that the all gracious God has blessed Ndi Enugu with enough human resources cum altruistic individuals who would be ready to make the people feel that Ugwuanyi once led Enugu State, but a better Ugwuanyi has resurfaced. But would the ever resurgent and selfish political class allow the will of the people to prevail?. May I quickly crave the prayers of all men of goodwill in Enugu State that God might look beyond our human frailties and raise for us and himself a leader like another David to take Enugu State to where we truly desire her to be.
God, please raise a leader that will shun act of selfishness but would work to ensure the good of all. Please raise a leader that would be ready to be prudent with state resources, yet show meaningful development that would benefit the people in more ways than one. This has been the hallmark and uniqueness of the present Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. A man who delights in saving costs of governance, yet pushing development in an uncommon manner despite the dwindling economic fortunes of the third world countries, where Nigeria belongs.
As I write this, not quite a few would be enamored by the humongous, yet spartan edifices which sprang up in place of the old government lodge in Enugu. Call it remodeling or whatever, fact remains that what has become of the old government lodge is eye popping to say the least. By this singular action, governor Ugwuanyi has overtime demonstrated that he is a type 4 personae with taste and perfection nudging him, yet with absolute management acumen. What is up presently at the old government lodge is enough to give the best organized society in the world a run for their money.
A 600-seater state-of-the-art Banquet Hall with basement offices, meeting rooms, retaining walls,10 units of Executive Guest Houses and 24 units of Guest Flats with Dining Hall, for routine guests of the state government, as well as a standard Lawn Tennis Court fitted with lighting facilities for physical exercise, beautiful landscaping works among other facilities at the premises of the lodge is no mean feat or child’s play. By these efforts too, economic watchers are agreed that Ugwuanyi has not only brought his good management skills to bear on the project, but it is a great way of saving humongous cost of governance and upgrading the status of Enugu, to continue to play her leadership role as the historic capital of the South East geo-political zone of Nigeria. This is the true essence of governor Ugwuanyi’s leadership model. May Enugu State continue to be in the hands of God, Amennnnnn!!!
