A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sam Onuigbo has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Onuigbo’s defection was made known on Thursday in a letter read during plenary by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The lawmaker, who represents Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency of Abia State, cited division and crisis in his local government chapter of the PDP.

Reacting to his defection, the minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu urged the speaker to declare the defecting lawmaker’s seat vacant, a request rejected by Gbajabiamila.

Bibian Anekwe News reports that the PDP has recently been rocked by various defection from the party.

A total of three lawmakers defected to the ruling APC since the beginning of this week. Mr Onuigbo’s defection makes it the fourth.

Meanwhile, the factional Chairman of the APC in Edo State Anselm Ojezua has dumped the party for the PDP.

Ojezua alongside some of his supporters took the decision to join the PDP at an ‘enlarged meeting’ of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of APC, which was attended by members of the State Working Committee (SWC), party chairmen in the 18 local government areas and Edo leaders of the party.

He stated that he was leaving the party because of a loss of confidence in APC national leadership.

According to the APC chairman, the party leadership has also engaged in disobedience to the party’s constitution.
