Today’s lecture on women leadership and National development was held at Rwanda National Assembly at Kigali with Rwanda senators and House of Representatives.. parliamentarians present were Hon. Senator Murangwa Hadija Ndangiza ( The vice president of the Forum of women parliamentarians Rwanda) Hon. Senator Rubagumya Emma Furaha ( The president committee on gender and political affairs in Rwanda parliament) Hon. Ahishakiye Mediatrice ( Member of Rwanda parliament) Minister of women affairs, Lagos state Governor’s wife, Katsina state Governor’s wife, Ogun state Governor’s wife, Bauchi state Deputy Governor’s wife e.t.c
Hon. Senator Murangwa Hadija Ndangiza stated that Rwanda is the first country in the world with female majority in parliament, 61.3% of Parliament/ Lower chamber are women, 38.5% of Senate are women, 51.5% of Ministers are women, 49.7% of Judiciary are women, 45.2% of district councils are women, 34.4% of Director Generals are women, 46.5% of National public prosecution are women e.t.c.
However, women in decision making are playing an instrumental role in influencing and positioning the gender agenda and ensuring accountability for gender equality across sectors and at different levels.
Hon. Senator Rubagumya Emma Furaha gave lecture on the role of women empowerment in the socio- economic transformation of any country, stating that no country can be fully developed if women are left behind.
