To every human is a destiny attached. Although destiny as a phenomenon has variously been questioned by philosophers and authors like Sophocles in his Oedipus the King , all is agreed destiny is real, only that they have yet to find a common ground for its influences. The maker of the universe assigned natural functions to living creatures and also designed them to suit habitats. When a fish finds its way out of water, it surely knows its end has come. The Almighty God created us humans for a purpose. The bible says he created everything to give Him pleasure. That is to say that when man does that for which he is created, it gives God pleasure. When you find yourself in your world, you do not struggle to achieve purpose; you flow naturally without struggle. But many pass through the earth without finding their world.
What in Christendom is referred to as one having a call is the same as destiny. God told Isaiah that while he was in his mother’s womb He had known him and called him into His service. The holy book also says that he whom God calls, He predestinates and this understanding is the spirit of Calvinism as a commission in Christendom. Even Lucifer was created for a purpose. He was created and wired with the art of praises to the Almighty God, but he derailed. Those who hold that character is faith may not be wrong. God does not force anyone into that purpose for their creation. Many destinies are derailed. Many in their lifetime do not achieve the purpose for their creation. Some who are mechanics were called into medical practice but they end up somewhere else. When one discovers one’s call, one does not struggle to manifest in that field. The monkey was born in a tree and so does not struggle to hop from one branch of the tree to the other; the fish does not struggle to swim in water. When calling is not found, one is bound to struggle mechanically through the wrong place and so cannot achieve much in that field.
Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is one person who discovered his calling into leadership and so positioned himself for it. Leadership involves the management of men, money and materials to achieve set out goals and objectives. It involves the influencing of decisions and behaviour of followers for a common end. Leadership is not something everybody dabbles into. It calls for wisdom and people management skills. It requires a large heart and emotional intelligence to empathise with the led and take people-oriented decisions irrespective of personal dispositions and benefits. Idi Amin of Uganda, Abacha of Nigeria and the Nazist Hitler were men who were not called into leadership but bulldozed into it and made a mess of themselves and the country they led, as they became tyrannical.
When righteousness is on the throne, the people rejoice, for righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach. Righteousness is a function of sacrifice. What have you sacrificed for the sake of the nation? What selfish benefits have you done away with for the sake of the people? These are the type of questions that righteousness entertains. Ugwuanyi has taken many sacrificial steps for the sake of the people of Enugu State. Accepting to live a public life is in itself an act of sacrifice, then leading the people well is quite another. When the led are happy, it is a sign their leader is doing well and they naturally give their support and allegiance ( legitimacy) to the leader. The people of Enugu State are happy about Ugwuanyi’s giant strides in all sectors of the Enugu economy, be it in peace and security, agriculture, health, education, roads construction and rehabilitation, labour and employment, youths and sports, to mention no more, and these are spread across the 17 local governments of the state.
If third term were a constitutional possibility, the people of Enugu State would ask Ugwuanyi to continue. Seeing it is not a possibility, the people have been looking for how best to continue to enjoy his many good services, even beyond 2023. Even his party, PDP, having seen that Ugwuanyi is called into excellent leadership has on continued to engage his services. Recently, the party thrust on him the mantle for the peaceful conduct of gubernatorial primaries in Ondo State and Ugwuanyi gave the task his Midas Touch, resulting in rancour free gubernatorial primaries that saw the emergence of the people’s choice as the party flag-bearer.
Ugwuanyi’s good leadership skills occur to him as leaves would to a tree. He does not struggle through it. He is a man of the people and has a way of gauging the feel of the people. He knows when to use the carrot and when to apply the stick and gets results. Many are marvelled at how he keeps both friends and foes in such a way they agreeably work toward the common cause for the people.
In this same understanding, the People’s Democratic Party is yet undone with Ugwuanyi’s fine spirit of leadership. To that end, the party two days ago made him the leader of PDP in South East of Nigeria. The leadership of the party knows that if the party must make a headway in 2023, it has got to reinvent itself by way of fixing leadership challenges in the geopolitical zones. South East used to be the bride of the party but for want of true leadership, its strong grip on the region has loosened to defection and defeat in some states. Bringing a man like Ugwuanyi
who is called to true leadership of men on board to lead the party in the East is one right decision that will turn around the electoral fortune of the party, especially as it concerns the coming governorship election in Anambra State.
Recently, some Nigerians are asking Ugwuanyi to consider running for presidency in 2023. Such demands are rife on social media. These are Nigerians who have seen the exceptional achievements of His Excellency in Enugu State and would have him replicate them at the national level. Leadership is a call and Ugwuanyi is called and well positioned and poised for it. If his maker would have him serve Him and humanity at the national level, to Him be all the glory.
Consider what would have become of Enugu State if Ugwuanyi did not make himself available for leadership to which he is called, even from his mother’s womb. The state would have been in difficulties and his many achievements would not have taken place and many lives touched positively would ostensibly have been wasting in hardship. Ugwuanyi is a destiny helper to the people of Enugu State and the people can attest to that. If there be fate; if there be calling, Ugwuanyi is called and has answered to the call. It is not just enough to be called, it is also important to be chosen, for many are called but few are chosen, and being chosen lies in preparation, for when opportunity( calling) meets preparation,success is inevitable. The tremendous positive impacts and success narratives associated with His Excellency, Rt. Hon.Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, are a product of his calling and preparation for the challenges of leadership which he handles with dexterous ease.
We say a big congratulations to Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as he rises to higher heights in answer to his leadership calling.
Enugu State is in the hands of God, who has called His son to impact lives positively.
