Francis Chigbo Enemuo in his book ELEMENTS OF POLITICS postulates that women constitutes half of the world’s population and have contributed significantly to the well-being of human race. Aside this potent postulation, it could not really be argued that God Himself in His finest wisdom and discretion while creating the women folk foresaw the role of the women widely insinuated as the weaker sex in nation building. I’m sure that the women themselves must be aware of this divine roles but societal influences and certain prejudices have helped in no small measure to keep them down from realizing their full potentials. From North to South, East to West, the prejudices against women have remained largely same that they have come to be regarded as hewers of wood and drawers of water.

Successive governments globally and especially in our clime aware of the immense potentials of women if properly nudged and motivated have always paid lip service to the issues of women and youth empowerment. Rt. Honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi it must be recalled during his inaugural speech in 2015 vowed to put every necessary measures in place to uplift and empower this vital segment of humanity since they are vital ingredients to societal well-being and growth. Since the inception of his administration, Governor Ugwuanyi have often equated women and youth empowerment as a great indicator of the level of success in the attainment of sustainable human development. Governor Ugwuanyi no doubt believes in the widely held notion that if you educate a woman, you have educated a whole nation.

Globally today, another important segment of the human population resides in the youth category and is considered to constitute about 70 percent of the total population. This is truly humongous. For the former President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo identifying and addressing issues that would enhance the lives of the youths would surely improve overall national development. Obasanjo was assertive that youths constitute Nigeria’s only hope for a real future. These realities was not equally lost on the forward looking governor of Enugu state as he had also demonstrated uncommon courage to tackle issues of youth restiveness in the state. As one who takes the responsibilities of governance seriously, he understands that only robust engagements of the youths would drastically reduce social ills and vices associated with youth exuberance.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi understands that the best way to wrestle the problem of insecurity is by engaging the young ones. If the youths are not properly engaged and empowered, it will be very difficult to achieve a crime free state despite humongous resources apportioned to security.

To the credit of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi more attention have been paid on the dreams and aspirations of the youths and women by providing platforms that have helped them to thrive and further develop themselves. The Gburu-Gburu governor has taken many youths of the state out of the street of Enugu through youth empowerment and schorlarship programmes. This has made them to be useful to their families and the society at large. The youths and women are also greatly involved in the governance of the state. Today many women including young men and women are holding very strategic positions in Ugwuanyi’s government. For Governor Ugwuanyi, the saying that the youths are leaders of tomorrow starts today.

Governor Ugwuanyi’s template for empowerment has unlocked windows of opportunities for women and youths of Enugu state. This is vital in building very dependable and viable future for Ndi Enugu that we all will be proud of.

BIBIAN ANEKWE NEWS..ADDED..”As we look ahead into the 21st century, leaders will be those who empower others.” we thank His Excellency Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his various empowerment program in Enugu state.
