Governor elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to snub the invitation of the National Assembly.

Bibian Anekwe News reports that President Buhari was scheduled to appear before and brief lawmakers on the security challenges rocking the country.

But during the National Executive Council of the APC on Tuesday, governors prevailed on the president not to appear before the National Assembly.

According to Premium Times, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State moved the motion for the cancellation of the President’s planned address.

The Ondo governor reportedly cited a possibility of unnecessary immitations of such invitation by state assemblies nationwide.

It was gathered that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and other governors backed Akeredolu.

Recall that the House of Representatives had asked the president to appear before them to explain what is being done to curb the increasing reports of kidnapping, killings, banditry and violence rocking Nigeria.

The presidency on Monday confirmed Buhari will appear before a joint session of NASS on Thursday.

In a post on Twitter the president’s Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, wrote: “FireFLASHFire, FireFLASHFire President @MBuhari will address a joint session of the National Assembly (@nassnigeria) on Thursday 10th December 2020.”

The Senior Special Assistant to Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, also confirmed that the president would address lawmakers.
