Verifiableacts and circumstances available and by dint of extrapolation the gimmicks of Nigerian Politicians defies logic. How they dangle carrots, spill litany of promises during electioneering and subsequently deplete those heavy expectations hoisted on their slippery shoulders actively contributes to the ditch of hasty generalization, masses without constraints haul themselves into. The gulf of mistrust between the state and the people widens with every passage of the day that certified information originating from government doors can easily be misconstrued or taken with a pinch of salt. Most pathetic of this ugly trend is the ability of some self-seeking feudal who do not take chances given their murky and troublous political pedigree to merchandise falsehood amongst the people against an accountable government.
Whoever said that “A man’s food is another man’s poison” deserves urgent award for his intellectual perspicacity. Little wonder, while we decry citizens laxity and inertia towards scouting government’s daily programs from the right sources, in between the line, some are gaining from the condition to foster conundrum and distrust.
The other day, Enugu State Independent Electoral Commissioner, Barr Obiora George sent out a circular notifying all workers who partook in the previous local Government election exercise on the Governor’s readiness for instant disbursement to defray their earned bills. In our novel culture of disbelief, perhaps fueled by what the media in league with their clad benefactors has kept flying as news against His Excellency Rt. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, some shuddered in unmitigated disbelief. Like other unsolicited splurge of rhetorics people shelved this aside. But when has Governor Ugwuanyi relapsed in prompt payment of public and civil servants salaries unlike other states held down by overwhelming wage bill and accumulated debts without corresponding increments of internally generated revenue?
Don’t trail bandwagons against Ugwuanyi for you may lose a foothold to stand your brief thusly suffering a runny nose crash landing. Leave that comfort zone of yours and crave for the right news.
When you hear them spew inanities and unashamed tomfoolery to haul dirt to the Governor’s impeccable nape, hesitate not to remind them that 98% of local government electoral officers have received blessings due to them as would diligent labourers. According to the dutiful Hon. Commissioner for Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, Barr. Obiora George Ani, Enugu State government has paid all returning officers spanning through the 17 local governments of the state including payment to 260 wards returning officers.
He also categorically enthused that 260 supervisory presiding officers were issued warrant to smile to the bank on grounds of quantum meruit together with payment to 6 local government, presiding officers, pool clerks and assistant pool clerks.
The Hon. Commissioner however expressed worry over little glitch encountered in the disbursements owing to incorrect bank details which he sincerely hope to rectify before the week runs out.
Allow yourself not to be lured away by the suavity of unreal tales cobbled together by ravers. Ugwuanyi we voted may have been peeved as like anyone by the deluge of unwarranted provocation systematically choreographed to tickle him into misuse of people’s mandate but as a levelheaded strategist he understands the laws of when and how. Ugwuanyi believes in hardworking and incentives as against unjust wealth appropriation which his detractors are best famed . So when these few misguided hirelings troup to re-enact “Saveenugu” script delivered to them, ask if they wish to save what has been placed in the caressing hands of God?
A labourer is worth his wage for there’s dignity in labour howsoever menial and Governor Ugwuanyi has always kept his words on the welfare of Enugu State workers. His continued provisions for state workers are no doubt testament to the robust mutual empathy and motivation for greater discharge of civic duties by these workers unlike the current Kaduna State labour pandemonium where people who have devoted years in the service of their State got rewarded by massive retrenchment in the name of astronomical increase of wage bill weighing heavily on state’s lean purse. Going by Enugu State revenue records which Ugwuanyi has inspired by all round industrial revolution and the recent grant of loan for Small and Medium Enterprises to willing entrepreneurs; Enugu would occupy comfortably a space amongst comity of well run state and avoiding such appalling treatment of her workers.
