Following the defection of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Egwu Chidiebere, a Special Assistant on Internal Security and Public Utilities (Urban) to the governor, has resigned.
Bibian Anekwe News reports that Chidiebere’s resignation was made known in a letter to the Ebonyi State government on Thursday.
Chidiebere said his leave from the position “is with effect from today, 19th day of November, 2020”.
“My resignation should not be misconstrued as an affront to your person, thus, but in tandem with my principle never to betray my master and anyone else.”
Umahi had sacked the former SA, Nchekwube Anakor for “non-performance and prevailing security challenges in the state”.
He had also fired the Development Centre Coordinator of Anuagata, Amos Ogbonnaya; Coordinator Okposi Development Center, Jerry Okorie Ude, and Martha Nwankwo Coordinator Ohaozara-East Development Center
Recall that Chidiebere’s exit came less than a week after the Commissioner for Inter-Governmental Affairs, Lazarus Ogbee, stepped down.
Bibian Anekwe News had reported earlier that the Ebonyi Governor announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC while addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital on Tuesday, November 17.
Governor Umahi said he moved to the ruling APC because of injustice meted out to the Southeast by his former political party, the PDP.
The Ebonyi Governor clarified that he has no deal with the APC or any member of the party with regards to the zoning of the presidential position to the southeast in 2023 as touted in some quarters.
