It has become increasingly difficult for the critics of the state government powered by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Gburu-Gburu of Enugu state nay the globe to pin point a particular sector where His Excellency has not touched in his characteristics manner of making government work for those who elected him. Ndi Enugu has been enamored no doubt by the exceptional wisdom Ugwuanyi has employed in the governance of the state.
Perhaps one important area which has not gained proper attention but has far reaching implications for the overall health of the people is in the area of waste management and evacuation system. The truism that cleanliness is next to godliness has never been more pronounced as the government of Ugwuanyi ensured that the Enugu metropolis and other emerging sub urban centers are adequately kept clean. Of course, in the Era of epidemics and pandemics, no serious government can afford to stand aloof while it’s major cities are muddled with dirts and wastes. It is in the light of the above that the government of His Excellency Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi must be commended for doing the needful in the area of waste management in the state.
It is important to score high the level of commitment often exhibited by the staffers of the Enugu State Environmental Sanitation Agency (ESESA) headed by Dr. Oscar Okwume (Ikeogu). It is also important to commend Governor Ugwuanyi for using the waste management and evacuation scheme to stimulate employment generations for the army of youths in Enugu state. About 20% of the unskilled labour have been engaged through this scheme. And to support and encourage these significant session of the labour force by the government, their salaries and wages has always been promptly paid as at when due.
This is laudable too considering the fact that criminality is bound to be on the high side when there is unemployment, Governor Ugwuanyi saw it necessary to drop the mechanical system of sweeping the major streets of our urban metropolis and hence adopted the manual system as a major way of creating employment.
The contractors responsible for the evacuation of these wastes too need be commended for prompt evacuation from across the dumpsters located at strategic locations to the landfill site located at Ugwu Onyeama.
In all ramifications, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi chose to serve the people through NJ God of positivity because he is humility and selflessness personified. Here is a man who assumed office and recognized that high office is an opportunity to do good to mankind because as a popular Chinese adage admonished, a man must do good to fellow mankind when the opportunity comes because he might never find or have same opportunity again.
I’m certain that even his avowed critics will believe howbeit reluctantly that Ugwuanyi has done well and still doing more. Enugu is truly in the hands of God.
