Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s peaceful disposition has reached canonical pitch and has begun to overflow into the banks of international recognition. Nigerians have found in Ugwuanyi the visage of peace and security despite the prevailing ugly face of violence mindlessly going on in the country. In Enugu State, the Ugwuanyi administration has got peace and security as its special forte; no doubt about that. While Nigerians groan in dire straits over the present ugly situation served on the platter of violent destruction of lives and property, Ugwuanyi holds the olive, the peaceful Enugu State, as a reference point, a scintilla of hope for the people.
Every nation has the great soul, the collective consciousness that warehouses its worldview or what Habermas calls the lifeworld. It is a repertoire of the mind and thoughts of the people, their competence and guiding principles. It is the means by which the people connect to the spirit of their ancestors, the minds of our heroes past, of those in the clouds of witness or the spirit of just men made perfect. That is the great soul that enters everyone within the cultural bounds and arbitrarily asserts itself. It forms this huge consciousness in the people.
Within this huge consciousness of Nigerians is the thought of peace as opposed to the present violence. Ugwuanyi seems to be the prevailing image, a metaphor for good governance which peace and security of lives and property guarantee. Nigeria is in desperate search to reinvent itself for peaceful existence. This is the wish of the people and Governor Ugwuanyi’s Enugu State affords the tenability of that wished peaceful state of affairs. Ugwuanyi represents that possibility. These things are not forced. They naturally occur to the great soul as leaves would to a tree. It is not a matter of politics. Perhaps, it finds a place in what Jameson calls the political unconscious. So, by means of this emotional short-circuit, Governor Ugwuanyi is associated with peace and this is because Ugwuanyi, above all, pants for peace as the deer would the waterbrook.Ugwuanyi has this finesse to block all access and passages to violence and insecurity and so has irretrievably placed the sceptre on the palm of peace and it has held it with its tight and taut fist and reigns absolutely in Enugu State. Peace and security is part of Ugwuanyi’s success story in Enugu State.
Ugwuanyi’s way with peace is somewhat unfathomable. His ability to manage crisis and turn it into peace is yet undecipherable. He is like the road that knows no foe. In pursuit of peace, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is also like the pumpkin leaves and the ijele ants that know no boundaries. Even in circumstances of extreme provocations, Ugwuanyi has a way of soaking it with this vigorously prevailing sense of equanimity. That presumably accounts for why Enugu State is the most peaceful state in Nigeria. While the flag of insecurity flies the sky and fans Nigerians cold, Ugwuanyi’s Enugu State offers the people the cosy ambience of peace and security.
It is, therefore, for nothing that Ugwuanyi’s fame is noised abroad. He who did not hear the story of Nwadingwoke, did the elephant stamp on his eardrums? Governor Ugwuanyi has become the archetype of peace the same way Tiger Woods is the archetype of the masters. The international recognition Ugwuanyi’s peaceful disposition of epic proportion has attained first found vociferous expression in far away Turkey, in Europe.
The Nigerian Community in Turkey, on 25th September, 2021 in a ceremony that saw a mixed multitude of Nigerians and Turks rolled out rumbling drums in celebration of the peace czar, Governor Ugwuanyi. Multiple awards one of which is the Most Peaceful Governor of the Year Award were conferred on him. This was in recognition of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s deliberate and conscientious approach to peaceful living in a country ravaged by the terrorism of Boko Haram, Fulani herders, unknown gun men and all manner of violent upheaval that daily defies the Nigerian authorities. It is amazing how Ugwuanyi manages to wrought peace in the midst of so many crises. This award shows to what extent Ugwuanyi has come to represent peace, without exaggeration, even in the consciousness of the globalized world. It has just begun in Turkey and will likely extend to other nations of the world as Nigerians, even in the Diaspora, desperately search for peace and security embodied in Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
