Nigerian social media users continue to criticize Nigeria’s presidential Spokesperson, Femi Adesina.
This follows an interview with Mr Femi on a Nigerian television station in which he said Nigerians should be thankful to his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari for combatting insecurity.
“There could be five, six bombings in one day. Now, you can have two, three months with no single case of bombing. Let’s be thankful for small mercies. Any mercies we receive, let’s be thankful for it, and let’s not dwell on negatives alone.” said Femi Adesina.
The remarks angered many on social media, especially Twitter, as insecurity ravaged parts of the country.
Some reacted sarcastically while others many other Nigerians including former Kaduna State Senator Shehu Sani reacted angrily.
Shehu Sani said “Thanking my friend Colonel Femi Adesina ‘no bombing’.
“Femi Adesina is unbelievably disgraceful with his comments and this picture clearly analyses how he thinks
Another person believes that Femi Adesina’s statement on Nigeria’s security was politically motivated. “Femi Adesina’s statement on national security is politically influenced. They have failed Nigerians. Let them keep playing politics with human lives.” he said.
The reason for people’s outrage
Last week, Femi Adesina was criticized on Twitter after a lengthy letter congratulating the president on his 78th birthday.
Femi Adesina’s colleague, Malam Garba Shehu, soon came out to apologize for his comments on the abducted children in Katsina.
Mr Garba said only 10 children remained in the hands of the gunmen who abducted them.
But after the release of the 344 children, he took to Twitter to apologize for the ‘inaccurate’ comments.
Garba Shehu’s statement comes as some locals are angry with him after he said: “Farmers killed in Zabarmari did not seek permission to go to the farm which led to their deaths”.
