It was Aristotle that made the classic assertion that we are what we repeatedly do and that excellence is not an act but a habit and a lot would subscribe to the projection that it takes more than ordinary oral consent to be responsible. As I sit up with a roving sentiment to mirror once more the policies and strategies of Governor IFEANYI UGWUANYI’S reign as the current number one citizen of Enugu State, I keep on stumbling on some fascinating facts that sustain my respect and admiration for the governor’s leadership paradigm.
As I peruse through the epic narrative of Gburu Gburu’s uniqueness in dispensing his authority as a leader, I keep on experiencing some intriguing reality defining and stamping the innovativeness of his political gospel . As I seek for the potentials of Governor Ugwuany’s reign, I recently learnt that one of the possible nuclei of his passion to carve a niche for himself in the annals of history could be linked to the popular slogan of his Alma Mater; St. Theresa’s College, Nsukka which is BONUM…ELIGERE : a classic Latin expression which means aiming at the highest point. I have learnt that Governor Ugwuanyi does not aim at the BETTER when the BEST is possible and it is that angle that drives the core dimensions of this communication.
When I weigh the the possible impetus foregrounding Governor IFEANYI UGWUANYI’S epic accomplishments with regards to rural development, I marvel at the ingenuity of such timely decision to take development down to the long-forlorn remote villages without disregarding the urban areas. By undertaking to localise development, MR FULFILLMENT had consciously attended to the yearnings of the villagers; providing standard access road networks; ensuring the provision of pipe-borne water and implementing rural electrification policies. Indeed Gburu Gburu appreciates the semantic implications of the adage stipulating that charity begins at home. Indeed MR FULFILLMENT began his charity in the remote villages. For resisting the temptation to concentrate development in the urban areas, Governor IFEANYI Ugwuanyi demonstrated that part of his motivations in life is BONUM…ELIGERE!
In the education sector, MR FULFILLMENT would not be found wanting as he engages in a massive overhauling, reforms and transformations; once more injecting standards and world best practices with a guided sense of priority. Today, one does not need to go beyond his immediate or neighbouring premises before sighting an architectural masterpiece constructed as one education facility or the other in Enugu State. Today, from Institute of Management and Technology ( IMT) to the Enugu State University of Science and Technology ( ESUT) and right across all the state higher institutions, you would appreciate the impressive efforts invested by Governor Ugwuany’s administration in ensuring that a lot of unaccredited courses are accredited alongside other outstanding transformations and I am tempted to submit that Enugu State today is the education capital of the East. So, for sustaining and improving the education standards in the state, Gburu Gburu once again indicates that part of his administrative philosophies remains BONUM… ELIGERE!
And what happens when one ventures into understanding Gburu Gburu’s predisposition towards agriculture in the state? Certainly, one would not need cross boundaries before he learns the far-reaching investment of the current administration in alleviating the plight of Enugu farmers and in tackling the challenges of Agriculture in the state and today, the farmers in Enugu State are at verge of implementing all-year-round farming season and of course any magic wand that resulted in such update must be predicated on the words on marble: BONUM… ELIGERE!
Again, an observer decides to query the state workers’ welfare under the governance of MR FULFILLMENT, one be bemused to find out that in spite of the excruciating concomitants of the novel Covid 19, that workers keep receiving “13th” month salary in addition to other verifiable benefits. So, would the messenger or the office clerk working in state ministry counter the argument that Governor IFEANYI Ugwuanyi is not just a product but a promoter of the ideological foundation of BONUM… ELIGERE?
As I sit back to relax on my head on my office chair, I am moved to continue putting down in black and white the profound and imposing accomplishments of His Excellency, Rt . Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi as the executive governor of Enugu State and how he has succeeded in establishing his political pragmatic leadership touchstone on the basis of the ageless Latin construct; BONUM…ELIGERE but I am sure better days are ahead.
