Despite the seeming pretext of our enrolling into the train of civilization especially with disturbing poise to individualism and narcissistic preoccupation which has dented significantly African traditional values of communality; there still inures in us the sublime consciousness of unity in the face of threat to collective existence. Political games of our peculiar kind has a way of knifing surviving ribbons of a particular community if actors relapse in deploying wisdom as they ply their trade, failure of which retrogression spontaneously suffice in the most abominable dimensions. Incontesably, communities lost past glories, living in the old days shadow and surgically crippled from winning more glories if fraternal love is undermined.
The recent visit of His Excellency Rt. Ugwuanyi to Opi Community, in Nsukka Local Government Area was more than a revealing event. The epic “thank -you rally” organized by Opi Youths Movement (OYM) in the governor’s honor and for the recognition of arrays of his developmental feats, painstaking drafted economic policies which has improved standard of living, mass creation of jobs to teeming youths and the general security tranquility in the state over six years now.
The epochal rally wore an overwhelming successful toga and first of its kind since recent history of the community. Opi Community has been a pivotal force to reckon with and most of her prominent sons played and continues to play patriotic roles dating from the creation of the state. One might be lured into believing that such a community of icons would attract fundamental government infrastructures and the likes, unfortunately the odds had been to their disfavour. Upon entry into this great town, a flattering disillusionment flies in the face of a stranger who must have heard her exploits. In the community, you hardly spot government presence with the available one gasping for life. Enduring this insufferable neglect by successive orders became a second nature which they have borne with unusual equanimity, until Gburugburu intercepted in their stead and the probable precipitation into political irrelevance.
How can a people of such rich human resources and intimidating numerical strength coupled with the strategic position of her locality as she sat almost at the intestine of the state, shoveled into oblivion particularly in this era of population determination of who clinches which trophy and how to cruise home to victory.
Governor Ugwuanyi clearly digests the compelling need on the means to onboard every Community in the state inspiring sense of stakehood and belonging. Recall that early this year, governor Ugwuanyi along side legion team of aerospace engineers to the site of proposed tower building and roundabout construction.
While the community is yet to settle dust of happiness proudly sponsored by the governor in this regard, the governor buoyed by love and compassion to haul off the community from cusp of political abyss has assured them on his visit during the “thank you rally” of another asphalt road construction down the remotest hamlets.
It’s all about change, and Gburugburu is the required change that Opi Youths have come to terms with and to add their aggregate voices to the millions voices of Nigerians Youths yearning for Ugwuanyi in the national space. 2023 as a year of goodies and wonders already drawing to itself harvest of goodwill for good leader of Ugwuanyi’s sort. The outing speaks volumes of what togetherness and youthful congregate exuberance in political engagements can achieve, besides, Ugwuanyi had won the youth constituency investment medal unopposed.
