GOV. IFEANYI UGWUANYI: THE HUMANIST AND OUR COLLECTIVE ROLES
An online dictionary, Dictionary. com describes a humanist as a person having a STRONG interest in or concern for human welfare, values and dignity. In other words, a “humanist” is that individual devoted solely to the service of humanity and its welfare.
A humanist believes that humanity is in need of redemption. Humanity aptly evolves from the humanist principles and is a virtue associated with basic ethics of altruism derived from human condition. It critically symbolizes human love and compassion towards one another. For, Rt. Honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Executive Governor of Enugu state, the ideals of humanity is not just a matter of politicking, he embodies compassion, altruistic dispositions and love for his people.
Those who believe in humanity will readily admit that the human race is truly in need of redemption especially at this trying period which stares us in the face with the poor, the vulnerable and the incapacitated in the society bearing the bigger brunt. But the humanists are die hard believers that something can and must be done to help people in need. The Thespian prodigy, our own Nnenna Rachael Okonkwo popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka said this much when in a rare move to give back to her society via an Easter Carnival organized for the poor, the needy and widows in Enugu during the recent Easter celebration avvered and I quote “We get caught up in the need to fend for ourselves so much that sometimes we forget to pause to remember those around us who are less privileged”.
Continuing, Nkoli stated that the sole aim of her Easter Carnival was an altruistic move essentially put together to give back to her society… “the aim is to give back to the society, make the kids understand the importance of education, and most importantly, empower the widows and make them understand they are not alone.”
It is important to stress that the Carnival which ended on Easter Sunday drew the creme la cream in the entertainment industry especially friends of Nkoli who connected with her motives.
One man who is not outdone in compassion and love for humanity, Rt. Honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi gave his blessings and support for the Carnival in his characteristics manner. The Professor of Philosophy at Roberts Wesleyan College, Rochester New York city, David Basinger must have had Ugwuanyi and others of his ilk in mind when he noted and rightly too that…
“You can always tell what a man is, by what he does when no one is looking over his shoulders.” Spiritual and inspirational leaders have often admonished that we should be an extension of God wherever we go or in whatever we do. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have proved this a countless time without making noise about it. To prove that he never misses an occasion to showcase his humanist principles, Gov. Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi used the event Carnival put together by Rachael Okonkwo aka Nkoli to fete over 200 widows. Again in his characteristics manner to embrace God in whatever he does, he had enjoined his audience to pray for him and the success of his government since according to him, God is a special friend of the widows and answers their prayers.
Such is a man who have an unflinching belief in God. May all men of good will and not just the widows alone rise up to place Enugu state perpetually in God’s hands.
We sure need more of the humanists in our midst… So help us God, Amen…
BIBIAN ANEKWE NEWS ADDED..Most people think leadership is about being in charge. Most people think leadership is about having all the answers and being the most intelligent person or the most qualified person in the room. The irony is that it is the complete opposite. Leadership is about empowering others to achieve things they did not think possible. Leadership is about pointing in the direction, articulating a vision of the world that does not yet exist. Then asking help from others to insure that vision happens
