Enugu is known for it historical peaceful coexistence that has been a point of reference to all the South Eastern States. The governor of Enugu State His Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has done a yeoman’s job in the maintainance and preservation of peace and security of the state. He has made security of the state his Paramount concern. Record has proven his variegated approaches as well as the implementations of such policies to establish security appratichik aimed at ensuring the peace and security of lives and property of Ndi Enugu.
The Governor Ugwuanyi created the Enugu State Forest Guard now an Act of the state House of Assembly, 2020 consequent upon which he directed all the council Chairmen in the state to ensure the effective operations of the law in their areas of jurisdiction. It must be pointed out that this security establishment has been able to live up to its billings since it began operation in 2020. The Forest Guards have been able to checkmate the incidences of kidnapping and the activities of the murderous Herdsmen through its commitment to the objectives setting it up.
Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, early this year inaugurated 272 special constabularies recruited from across the 17 local councils of the state and specially trained at Oji River Police College for a community-policing project in the state. The governor, while inaugurating the special constables, also known as Community Policing Officers (CPOs), at the Government House Enugu, said that 16 of them were recruited from each local council of the state and drawn from the existing Neighborhood Watch Associations and Forest Guards. The special constables were deployed to their wards and local councils to assist the extant security apparatus in gathering and sharing of intelligence with the security agencies as well as maintain liaison between their communities and the police.
In furtherance of his objectives to bring enduring peace and security of lives and property, the Governor Ugwuanyi led administration restricted Tricycle(Keke) riders from late night operations, as a consequence of the not good feedback arising from the operations of some hoodlums using tricycle mode of transportation as a cover to perpetrate evil and criminal acts. The tricycle operators were therefore barred from operating between the hours of 9:00pm and 6:00am just so that the activities of the bad elements in their midst could be checkmated. Ugwuanyi is a visionary leader who understands his mandate and how to actualize it.
It could not be gain said that the efforts of governor Ugwuanyi led administration in the security sector has yielded meaningful results and has positioned Enugu as a destination capital of sort. Little wonder, day in and out, various interest groups and individuals have continued to troop into the capital city to have a taste of her hospitality, peace and harmony entrenched by the white lion himself, his Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi. Ya dili gi na mma, Gburu-Gburu Enugu State. Enugu State would no longer have a hiding place for all manner of criminals and evil merchants. Enugu state is in truly in the hands of God.
