The ambience of every human habitation is determined by the collectivity of the people’s responsibilities but most significantly depends on the virtues of the leader of such society. This implies that the destiny of all groups, whether business cooperations or political units must rest on the shoulders of men who must possess among other virtues, courage, in abundance because in the linguistic construction of the eminent Maya Angelou, ” without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful , generous, or honest.”
Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the executive governor of Enugu State walking his part in the political destination of his people has in many cases proven beyond reasonable doubt that he taps regularly from the wisdom embedded in the philosophical disposition of the classical philosopher, Aristotle, when he submitted that ” courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality that guarantees others” and when one throws sentiment to the wind and decides to be a bit objective about the genuine concern being demonstrated by Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration in the development and advancement of his people, one would appreciate Gburu Gburu’s depth of application of the wise perspective of the renowned Confucius who noted that when one is “faced with what is right, to leave it undone shows lack of courage.”
As much as I am not primarily dwelling on the inventory of all the projects undertaken by the administration of Governor Ugwuanyi in this piece of inscription, I might resort to sampling some of them at random to butress my points if the need arises because I know it takes more than mere oral consent to become a great figure in life and I am aware that it is only ethical to lend credence to evidence with facts and figures.
Despite the fact that every leader or politician exhausts every option at his disposal to convince, confuse or manipulate the public that he is delivering on his promises, it is still credible to argue that most of them are easily found wanting once they climb the ladder of political authority but the case of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi can be defended to be different as he must have certainly learnt earlier, the golden words of John Quincy Adams that “…courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.”
For the fact that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi upon assuming his office as the number citizen of Enugu State decided that his administration would positively affect the four hundred and seventy one wards that make up the seventeen local government areas of the state and has since continued to ensure ample implementation of such policy of gargantuan challenges shows that Gburu Gburu had enough of the imaginative resources and an unbeatable resolution to do the job at hand or have we forgotten that MR FULFILLMENT once approved and released the sum of ten million naira, each, to all the autonomous communities to execute at least one significant project to register the presence of the state government in the communities?
Who does not know that it takes a lot of hindsight and foresight for the government of Gburu Gburu to have concentrated mostly in developing rural areas, constructing solid access road network across the remote areas and upgrading and building brand new hospitals in our towns and communities?
It is true that the heart of man is insatiable but we should understand that government is a continuum and our part of the globe is still battling with a lot of challenges that it would be difficult for one particular regime to solve all the troubles staring us at face but how can a rational mind from Enugu State claim ignorance of all the genuine interest displayed by Governor Ugwuanyi’s leadership in the area of skills acquisition, youth empowerment and job creation through broad and productive partnership of the state’s SME centre and viable financial institutions? Today, thousands of Enugu indigenes can register their companies with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for free and access soft and agricultural loans from designated financial institutions. I bet, it can take courage and love to implement such ideas.
Could it be interpreted as an act of cowardice to suit the the imaginations of Gburu Gburu’s avowed destructive critics the fact that not less than two hundred and forty Law Students from Enugu State enjoy scholarship incentives from the state government piloted by Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi? To me, Ugwuanyi actually indicated that he understands the communicative import of William Lyon’s assertion that “the promises of yesterday are the taxes of today” and we know it takes someone who knows the connotations of the timeless submission of the Classical Horace that it’s only “courage” that ” … raises the blood of life to crimson splendor” to fulfill his promises on implementing agendas that would engineer scholarship programs and today people make bold to refer to him as MR FULFILLMENT.
When the governor of Enugu State, murders his sleep to ensure that there is an enveloping peace and security in the state; setting up fresh security apparatuses and equipping them with modern security gadgets and taking care of their respective welfare speaks volume of the governor’s assimilation of the illocutionary force of the age-long confirmation of the political pundit; Ronald Reagan who agreed that peace is not the absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means” and who would accomplish such enviable reputation without a resounding application of Alfred North Whitehead’s opinion who declared that “true courage is not the brutal force of vulgar heroes, but the firm resolve of virtue and reason.”
Has anyone bordered to investigate how Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi succeeded in making Enugu state as one of the few most economically viable states in the whole Nigeria, outperforming even oil-producing states in the economic development index? I suspect that outstanding courage is part of the success story.
As signalled earlier in the middle of the conveyance of this brief appraisal, it is not part of the primary preoccupation of this literary adventure to itemize all the projects completed and ongoing in Enugu state under the leadership machinery of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi but just to single out courage as one of the most obvious driving force of his political elasticity and gravity and I concur that Gburu Gburu has kept on enacting realistically his divinely-ordained role on the political stage of history, the sort of COURAGE that is nothing less than DRAMATIC.
