One of the challenges Governor Ugwuanyi led administration met when it came to power is the intractable traffic congestion that remained the lot of motorists and pedestrians in the metropolis especially around Abakpa-Nike axis. As a result of the daily log jam, a journey that would take an average motorist a maximum of 40 minutes plying from Enugu end to Nsukka usually lasts a horrendous 2 to 3 hours.
The consequences of the daily traffic jam extends to exposing motorists and commuters to the elements and uncommon dangers to lives and properties. Viewed from this prism, the intervention of Governor Ugwuanyi led administration to effectively combat and forestall the situation in Abakpa-Nike axis through the on-going construction of the massive flyover bridge at the T-junction, Nike Lake Road must receive more than an aplomb.
When the project was flagged off, some detractors thought it was a ploy to give Enugu people false hope, but the progress being recorded at the construction site of the flyover is already massive within a short while. Gigantic pillars have already been laid on the ground that will carry the flyover bridge. And all the work components in the site are assuredly in place.
If the Abakpa Nike T-junction flyover bridge is completed, it is going to standout as one of the major landmark development projects which the Government of Enugu state ably led by His Excellency, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi has executed. If the quality construction seen at the site is consistently maintained by the workers, that bridge will become one of the major legacies of the Project Ambassador and posterity will always remember him for it, and speak fairly of the Permanent Good Man (Gburugburu) and his team.
Kindly remember that Governor Ugwuanyi is dragging this project along at a moment in the country when there is a national economic downturn. This is Governor Ugwuanyi breaking the barriers and yoke of a tight global economic meltdown to pull through with such capital intensive project such as the kind of bridge I have personally seen on ground being erected. Truthfully, Governor Ugwuanyi has proven that “the best way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing”, Walt Disney quipped. Winston Churchill added that the pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity, while the optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty. Enugu State has an optimistic Executive Governor in our Odoziobodo Gburus, the Priest-in-Politics.
