Good performance begets accolades and appreciation. Most times, reciprocating a gesture varies according to an individual’s response to a particular situation or happening.
In other words, vote of confidence is invoked by confidence in performance and acceptance of result.
But a very germane question would have arisen on the significance such endorsements or vote of confidence from a number of political players, interest groups, faith leaders, economic experts, pundits and celebrities in our nation’s peculiar political environment.
How powerful is this cycle of picking and endorsing a leader by Labour unions, Town Unions, churches, socio-cultural groups, conglomerates of political parties, Interest groups and many more who represent the opinion and interest of the larger populace?
There is no question about a leader being entitled to unalloyed and genuine endorsement, only when he or she has shown a ventilated track record of exceeding performance or genuine readiness, to change the negative narrative in the system.
In Nigeria political clime, endorsements and passages of vote of confidence have become a contemporarily, recognised method for eulogising leaders, organizations and platforms who have distinguished themselves in various capacities of human development and nation building.
The political atmosphere have always been littered with all manner of passages of vote of confidence and endorsements including graft induced. In this case, the endorsers are craftly lured with financial baits and other enticements by underperforming leaders or elected officials, who after securing victory, would abandon the electorates to wallow in abject penury and misery.
At the inaugural ceremony to usher in government of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Gburu-Gburu) in 2015, the mammoth crowd at the event had high expectations. For some, inuaguration arena is a place where unfulfilled promises and manifestos are incubated. While others who knew the antecedents of Gov.Ugwuanyi when he traversed the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly acknowledged and confirmed Ugwuanyi, a character of transparency, equity and organized administrative skills. The attestation from the later, further ignited the hope of many who kept faith and hoped to see him perform outstandingly, as clearly observed during his days at the National Assembly.
Following his assumption of office, it didn’t take too long to observe various groups drawn from opposing sides, began to acknowledge the reality of Ugwuanyi’s uncommon leadership. We have observed in greater amount, conferrement of awards, extension of praises and eulogies and more still, continous passages of votes of confidence and solidarity.
As our people would fondly say, “it is how one does, that would determine how the gong would be sounded or beaten for him or her”. And it may as well, interest you to know that these plethora of endorsements were not graft induced or sought but was provoked by Gov.Ugwuanyi’s outstanding commitment towards improving the living standard of the masses.
Memorably, on 29th day of May, 2021, at an event, to commemorate Rt.Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s six (6) years in office, stakeholders of Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State having reviewed, with utmost thoroughness, the performance of Gov.Ugwuanyi during the period under review, described him as a phenomenal performer and consequently, declared their unflinching support and continuous allegiance to stand where he stands, come 2023.
As if that was not enough, the recent award as the “Most Outstanding Security Conscious and Peaceful Governor” by the Champions Newspaper, a leading media outfit, has affirmed the position of masses who had continued to profess unimaginable love for him through endorsement and wider support.
We cannot forget in a hurry, the lubish and vigorous approaches, Gov.Ugwuanyi employed in tackling and stemming the upsurge of the dreaded Covid-19 epidemic in the State. This singular character of purposeful leadership and proactiveness of Gburugburu, caught the attention of Enugu State Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), who honoured his outstanding role not only in making Enugu, a Covid-19 free state, but in upholding the culture of inclusion, political maturity and human capital development in the state.
Gov.Ugwuanyi is a political leader whose countless of endorsement and support is practically dependent on what he has done as against the amount he had paid to secure these supports from the people.
The Udi stakeholders, led by Hon.Ifeanyi Paschal Agu recently took their turn to convey a warm panegyric to Gov.Ugwuanyi, for his outstanding leadership, fatherly love and high- spiritedness in steering the affairs of the State.
Still counting, the good people of Udi/Ezeagu, under the auspices of Udi/Ezeagu Progressive Alliance, made their voice known by declaring their unalloyed support for Governor Ugwuanyi. The joy-filled people of Udi/Ezeagu, described him as an epitome of peace, who has brought to manifestation, good governance as well as created an enabling environment for peace and development to flourish in the state.
Meanwhile, Enugu di n’akachukwu Movement (EDNACM) having observed in the administration of Gov.Ugwuanyi, a similar concerted commitment, to position Enugu State among the best, through dilation of contributions and opportunities in all subdivision of the state, solemnly pledged their allegiance to the people’s Governor.
It is imperative to note that, the coming of Gov.Ugwuanyi, signalled a greater hope for the state as seen in the judicious exploration and utilization of it’s human potentials in transforming the state. This progress and accomplishments of Ugwuanyi in governance may appear to be a magic, nonetheless, it is a product of sacrifice and unrelenting determination to run a purposeful leadership.
