GOV. UGWUANYI EARNS ANOTHER VOTE OF CONFIDENCE FROM THE STATE’S FEMALE STUDENTS.

In our society, it is customary for people to reciprocate the good deeds of any individual in a manner that is accustomed to the nature of the character’s attitudes. It is the same way of acclimatizing with the popular quotation that ”action and reaction are equal and opposite. Such philosophical dimensions evaporated from the recent visit paid to the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Rt Hon. Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi by a humble but grateful delegation of the female students of Enugu State in collaboration with the governor’s wife’s pet project Ugo’s Touch of Life Foundation (U-TOLF.)

As learnt during the event, the primary motivation for such sound delegation consisting female students from the three senatorial districts in the state was to show their gratitude and appreciations for the Governor Ugwuanyi’s efforts towards engendering opulence and assuagement for the girl-child in Enugu State line with the best practices of the civilized globe. Incidentally, the approval event at the state’s government house was staged to coincide with the International Day for the Girl-Child which is held annually on the 11th of every October and was also meant to memorialize the celebration.

During the memorable occasion, the students voiced their gratefulness for the governor’s consistency in ensuring that the contentment of the Girl-Child in the state is prioritised, by signing into law and domesticating the Child Rights and Responsibilities Act which empowers the group in context to seek justice or redress from a court of competent jurisdiction whenever their rights are encroached upon and which will further protect the vulnerable groups from violence and abuse and crowning his effort by establishing six family courts and rehabilitation home for vulnerable women, evenly distributed in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Lauding the governor for his sensitivity towards the conditions of the less-privileged and the oppressed, the students hailed Gburu Gburu for his timely intervention in the case the ten-year-old Nneoma Nnandi that was abused and rough-handled by her gaurdians; granting her access to free and quality medical attention, awarding her scholarship to university level, providing financial assistance to her widowed mother and ensuring that the perpetrators of such unruly act promptly face the law. According to the students, the governor through that alone had demonstrated his “…zero tolerance to gender-based violence, abuse and the violation of the rights of a child, support for education and empowerment of women” and for that the students cannot be less grateful.

The students further extoled the governor for hearkening to their call on the Day of the African Child for the establishment of recreational facilities and tourists centres for the promotion of outdoor activities and tourism in Enugu State. In fact, expressing their excitement, they confessed inter alia that;

“Today, we are excited to witness the manifestation of these requests, tourist sites and recreational centres are springing up in different corners of the state.” In an aesthetic description, the speaker admitted that,
“Noticeably in the centre of the metropolis is the Unity Park, beautiful to behold, modern yet retaining its natural features” and were confident that “…this development will be highly beneficial to Enugu residents both young and old and also attract more tourists into the state. Thank you for hearkening to our call”.

Congratulating the governor on his administration’s massive strides in the education sector, especially in primary and secondary schools across all the three senatorial districts of the state through the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), the noble delegation noted that “over a hundred schools can boast of equipped new class room blocks and offices” and acknowledged that they “…currently enjoy improved learning environment.”

The governor was also complimented for his administration’s giant steps to ensure that Enugu State is placed on the national map as one of the best states in the WASH sector, through the recent workshop, organized by the State Ministry of Water Resources and U-TOLF in collaboration with UNICEF, for the development of the state’s roadmap for the attainment of the “Open Defecation Free (ODF)” goal by 2025. The female students finally expressed their optimism that in no distant future, Enugu State children would have access to healthy sanitary facilities and improved health care in their concrete confidence in the ability of Governor IFEANYI UGWUANYI to deliver.

In a humble reaction, Gov. Ugwuanyi venerated the conspicuously arresting allotments of U-TOLF in touching lives and renewed his administration’s pledge to change the narrative in girl child protection, education, opportunities and empowerment in the state.

Familiarising them with the state government’s willingness to partner U-TOLF for the benefit of the girl child and women in keeping with the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the governor maintained that his administration has been in the vanguard of the global agenda through the passage of the Child Rights Law in 2016; establishment of six family courts across the three senatorial districts of the state; provision of free medical, legal and counseling services for victims of rape especially women and girls at Tamar SARC centre; consequential increase in girl child school enrollment, and rescue and rehabilitation of over 1000 young girls who were victims of unwanted pregnancy.

Governor Ugwuanyi, better known as MR FULFILLMENT further noted some of his viable policies and imperishable decisions which includes, “rescue and re-union of over 50 physically abused children (mostly girls) with their families; award of scholarship to some victims of the domestic violence; provision of shelter at the FSP Children’s Home and Oasis of Hope for the Needy for over 100 vulnerable children, and establishment of School Gender Based Clubs”.

On his administration’s commitment in encouraging girls to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses, the governor pointed out the state government, through the well-resourced Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board (STVSMB) has vigorously promoted STEM education in the state.

In the same vein, Gburu Gburu believes that his administration has improved the infrastructure in the 295 Secondary Schools and 41 Science Technical and Vocational (STV) schools in the state, recruited professionally trained science, technical and mathematics teachers for secondary and STV schools, continued training and retraining of teachers and provision of science and technical equipment for schools as well as provision of computers and accessories to basic, secondary, science and technical schools.

ENUGU STATE IS IN THE HANDS OF GOD.
