Peter Drucker once wrote that effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes. Publilius Syrus similarly added that anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm. His Excellency, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi’s led Enugu State Government has defied the most challenging factor which could have stood as clogs in the wheel of Enugu state development against the present administrative dispensation. I don’t want to sound unaware that some under-performing political leaders out there already use the global COVID19 pandemic as alibi– let’s say that the coronavirus pandemic has become the opium (a means of escape) for some political officeholders in Nigeria.

Even in the midst of dwindling economic situation of the country and the world at large, the current Enugu state government is seen dragging both the COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 realities along with the delivery of the major promises they made to the good people of Enugu state during the electioneering. The proposed Igbo-Ano College of Medicine Construction Project is one of the numerous instances.

A tour at the Igbo-Ano College of Medicine reveals the massive springing of structures such as the construction of a specialist Hospital for Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, Igbo-Ano, the ongoing construction of 2 nos. 12 classroom faculty buildings, 2 nos 10 classrooms faculty building and 2 nos 8 classrooms faculty buildings, etc for the ESUT College in Igbo-Ano which stands adjacent to the Specialist Hospital. It calls to mind that the first and the second phase of a Tertiary Hospital, Igbo-Ano, has been completed to serve as one of the facilities for the ESUT College of Medicine which has been relocated to Enugu North Senatorial District. A strong insider account already has it that the Project Bulldozer and Ambassador of the first order, Gburus already works towards completing the construction and the tasteful finishing of the major facilities of the Igbo-Eno College of Medicine within 6 months. E shock you?

Always have it in mind that not even the evil hands of COVID-19 pandemic nor the ugly anti-developmental attack from the nationwide #EndSARS protest could pause nor hinder the progress of Igbo-Ano College of Medicine Project and other similar projects being handled by Enugu state government. Note that even during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s Enugu SME centre effectively and efficiently organised humerous human capital development initiatives such as online trainings on product design, digital marketing, progamming for Enugu students and youths. I don’t want to dive into other commissions where Governor Ugwuanyi exploited the major economic and social realities to make sure his promise for the good people of Enugu state is not thwarted nor delayed to avoid over-regression.

The Holy Bible said in Proverbs 29 verse 18 that where there is no vision, the people perish. Warren Bennis affirmed that leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality. The Enugu state government of today appears to already has its vision mapped out, projected possible hindrances that may cause hamper towards the materialisation of the vision, hence, no matter how hard the socio-economic cum political realities hits the present day Enugu Government, instead of under-performing, it will cash in on the situation and produce (more) better results.

Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper asserted, “you manage things; you lead people”. Gov. Ugwuanyi sees himself as a servant giving a task that must be completed with zero tolerance for failure, no matter the odd situation. Hence, the dexterous manner at which he works like a snake whose head is forcibly cut off; such snake, is capable of rendering any tree that blocks its way dead. Max DePree opiniated thus: “the first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant”.

Ndi Enugu, permit me to submit that Enugu State is truly in the hands of God. And the Awesome God of Israel is doing signs and wonders through his beloved son, Governor Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, the Priest in Politics, the icon of the modern day democracy in Enugu state, South East and Nigeria, at its entirety. The evidence of these wonders already lie waiting for you and I at Igbo-Ano College of Medicine.

Bibian Anekwe News..added… Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi believes that health is the core of human development
