Gov ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has rebuilt the INEC State Headquarters burnt down by hoodlums some months ago. Gov Ugwuanyi presented the renovated facility through his commissioner for Special Duties, Hon Mrs Mabel Agbo to the INEC resident commissioner Dr Joseph Emeka Ononamadu. Gov Ugwuanyi acknowledged the obvious fact of the state as a civil service oriented as well as the dwindling state resources, but remarked that his administration was moved to undertake the renovation of the burnt facility by unknown gun men in the interest of the people who have been benefiting from the services of the Commission in the state.
Dr Ononamadu was there with his staff and other INEC officials. He was surprised to note that their office could be put back under a short time by a state government. He was bewildered that the newly renovated office is even better than the old own. He and his team was full of thanks to Governor Ugwuanyi and the people of Enugu State for coming to their rescue in so short a time. He prayed God to direct and bless this administration in all it’s endeavors.
Recall that unknown gun men sometimes earlier this year burnt the office of INEC located in Enugu and in some other states. More than five INEC offices were burnt nationwide. This made INEC chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu to cry out for security of thier lives and properties. He said that democracy is in another type of trial and is seriously hampered. He pleaded for assistance in any form and that is why Gov Ugwuanyi have come to help. Of all the INEC offices burnt down, only Gov Ugwuanyi have been able to put his own back and hand it over to INEC. Other ones are still in ruins and INEC have relocated to temporal offices.
Gov Ugwuanyi said he did that because of his love for democracy and to ensure that the next general election is not hampered in the state. Gov Ugwuanyi knows what democracy is and the benefit that comes with it. Though a federal government office, it is still our people that it is serving. Though there is a federal secretariat in Enugu that can accommodate INEC, Ugwuanyi knows that they will be more comfortable in thier own offices and will discharge their duty with ease. Though not all INEC staff working there are from his state, he knows it is for the benefit of the state.
This shows the magnanimity and selflessness of Gov Ugwuanyi. He thinks for the benefit of every body and carries all along in his administration. He sees all institutions in the state as his own both federal and state. That is why we are proud to say that Enugu State is in the hand of God.
