If there is any phenomenon regarded a rare gem, then researchers should go no further to understand it’s true meaning. The outgoing Governor of Enugu State will certainly fit a true description of this phenomenon. It is not everyday that one gets to meet his likes in the society especially in the political turf. Gov. Ugwuanyi equally asserted himself with the same level of equanimity to see that the electioneering campaigns in the state is one of peace and devoid of rancor. Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has therefore continued to distinguish himself as a man of peace and honor in all ramifications. His mature approach to issues with same dizzying equanimity has unsettled not quite a few of his political opponents. As a keen observer of the political happenings since the resumption of political campaigns by various political parties in the state surely revealed a man at peace with himself and God and will do everything humanly possible to let this harmony permeate every nook and crannies of the state despite his political leaning.
It is important to note that governor Ugwuanyi glaringly offered all the political parties in the state a level playing ground and allowed all the parties to campaign freely to drive home his usual embrace to peace and harmony. All political parties are allowed to put their bill boards, posters and flex banners virtually at every where they dim fit in line with the extant laws but without government undue interference. Comparable to what is observed in other nearby states, Gov. Ugwuanyi’s peaceful disposition and accommodation of other political interests is quite commendable and something to be cherished. Opposition political parties have always been strangulated in other states courtesy of the ruling political party but not in Enugu, because a man of peace is in power.
Recently, two major political parties, contesting against his party candidates came to campaign in Enugu. He threw his doors open to them and received them with a warm embrace. Gov Ugwuanyi freely offered them Okpara Square for their campaigns, a very strategic government facility. This is indeed healthy for our socio-political growth.
Although Gov. Ugwuanyi, it could be argued has no option than to be tolerant to opposition political parties since the extant laws of the land permits that, but we know that in Nigeria, most laws have always been adhered to in aberration especially when such laws have propensity to atrophy the leader and not the led. In other words, leaders have often used laws meant to serve public interest to their own greatest advantage and against the opposition. After all power is everything and the wielder is at liberty to use it however he/she desires.
It is also on record that all political parties have equal access to all state government owned media houses and their campaign gingles are given equal and massive airtime. They all have equal access to the advert space and all other facilities owned by government.
He had personally received all party candidates that have paid courtesy visit to him, (which means he has shown his accommodating and brotherly spirit to whoever wants to contest for his office). He had also given them all necessary security and other needs within his reach to ensure a smooth electioneering campaign. What manner of politician is Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi?
This is the kind of political maturity expected of leaders to make politics a game and not a war. His style of politics have drastically reduced political thuggery and miscreants in Enugu. He had also ensured that electioneering campaigns do not disturb the peace of the city or build up unnecessary traffic jams. Gov. Ugwuanyi had made politics easy. Political killings is almost eliminated except for opposition parties that are killing themselves for money.
We really commend him for this and urge other politicians to embrace him. His style of politics will make things a lot easier for us.
