Actions have always been more vocal than voice and one’s character or personality is founded mostly on the actions he undertook or failed to take in life. Significantly, it pays no one good to pay mere lip services to one’s promises. As Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi( Mr Fulfilment) campaigned for the position of the governor of Enugu state, he did severally declare that he would invest heavily on the standardization of our educational sector and today he is walking the talk, unavoidably earning not only our legitimacy but respect.
As the latest remodeling and upgrading of the renowned Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, is unveiled, every spectator gets wowed by the magnificent transformation of the institution to a beseeching sight of an academic oasis. The magnitude of the change induced by Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration goes beyond the scope for the pursuit of a degree-awarding status.
We recall that Ugwuanyi’s administration had earlier approved two hundred and eighty two million naira for the construction of four expansive structures consisting of lecture theatres, studios, laboratories and administrative blocks. The Governing Council of the institution led by Deaconess (Mrs) Ifeoma Nwobodo and the Management under the direction of the Rector, Prof. Austin, Nweze had judiciously used the fund released for the institution to renovate the internal road network, the Administrative Block, Mass Communication Block and the Engineering Block and is close to realising the dream of accrediting about fourty-eight courses in the institution.
As a testament to the obvious progress accomplished, for the first time in eleven years, IMT can now stand in the comity of higher institutions and celebrate academic convocations. To me, it’s a notable milestone.
As if that was not enough, Gburu Gburu had ensured that about three hundred and forty engineering students of IMT continue to enjoy significant scholarship program, the state government has never been found wanting in the area of regular and appropriate renumeration of the staff of the institution.
For sure the management and students of the Institute of Management and Technology will continue to look up to those structures, projects and impacts as the symbols of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s timely intervention in the institution in particular and education in general.
