Ordinarily one or two phone calls put across to a long line of aides and Commissioners at his beck and call would have saved Governor Ugwuanyi a world of stress. But as a people’s servant leader, he swiftly did away with red tape bureaucracy. At the dead of night Ugwuanyi found himself in the Udenu INEC office fire conflagration for first hand locus in quo inspection.
If the inferno was of a Federal Government value, dramatic insouciance would have carried the day. Maybe after two donkey weeks the Presidency will appease Lai Mohammed to check if anything was left of the structure ; then Presidency would muzzle another
“tuo chinkafa” and put up a pretext that he never knew something happened.
Enugu State is justifiably gifted with Ugwuanyi on the saddle. For any Governor to abandon pleasures and comfort of his home after mountainous task breathing heavily on his table at such bizarre time zone bearing in mind how suddenly we have lost our innocence on security matters is an award winning Governor.
No doubt the condition we have plunged ourselves into has boomeranged that even ants are afraid to continue with their industry as predestined.
What can account for the gains of prompt State Fire Service rescue are plethora. Ugwuanyi upon laying hands on the state’s rudder carried out series of reformation and revamping crusade to put the Fire Service in good shape. More firetrucks where purchased and numbers employed to shore up the extant available firemen.
Again, billboards containing lucid information on Enugu State Fire Service Stations, operations and distress call numbers where hoisted at every strategic places of the state to sensitize the people on what, who and where to go in the cases of natural disasters occurrence. Ugwuanyi tactically ensured responsiveness of those stations with the consciousness of reckless fall and burst of oil tankers consuming large fortunes at times roasting of victims that year. Anambra Market case was so awful, horrible and solemn.
In fact, I once witnessed those humanity workers in action the previous year, where fire broke out from a bush at the outskirts of Liberty, Abakpa Nike Enugu. They were frantically falling on one another to contain the inferno before it went feral. That Sunday afternoon, I came to a shocking reality about firemen. They have no Saturday’s and Sunday’s, so while the greater populace chant TGIF(Thank God It’s Friday) theirs is work anew.
Udenu INEC office inferno due to power surge,the swift response from the newly constructed Fire Service Stations in Udenu and Igbo-Eze and the Governors presence capped it all that the latter may leave an oversized shoe for whomever gets the baton come 2023. Ugwuanyi is a miracle, a surviving wonder of the earth.
Governance is a high-risk undertaken by people of Ugwuanyi kind called to serve and not the contrary. Such a beautiful precedent is commendable and should be encouraged by all.
