Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the governor of Enugu State has been able to put in massive efforts and invested several billions of naira towards projecting Enugu to a Megacity. According to World Bank projection few years back, that five cities in Nigeria including Enugu would emerge as Megacities by 2025. Enugu, a cosmopolitan city is truly enjoying an unprecedented growth in physical development under Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration and is poised to attain that feat given the speed at which things are moving currently in the state to join the group of megacities in the world.
As a fast expanding and bursting city that has its own fair share of modern-day urban challenges like traffic congestion, inaccessibility, shanties and erosion menace, the Enugu master plan which has also not been rendered to any re-appraisal before Ugwuanyi’s administration was subjected to a wholesale review during the current administration in order to ease flow of traffic, accessibility, as well as provide impetus for proper planning and implementation of mega structures and infrastructures. The revised Master plan also seeks to make Enugu attain the megacity status and to provide the foundation for the growing of other cities in the state. Enugu to the glory of God since governor Ugwuanyi led administration berthed has been bursting as more people arrive in search of opportunities which led to construction of more roads, urban expansion, housing, steady water supply and other social amenities. Governor Ugwuanyi, having come to the realization that infrastructure is the substratum of the economy have made infrastructural development a cardinal policy of his administration.
There are evidences in the last six years of Ugwuanyi’s administration indicating how Enugu is on the fast lane to catch up with modernity in order to befit its Megacity status. There have been various infrastructural development initiatives which have been phenomenal in this current administration. In Enugu today, anywhere one turns to, construction is ongoing, which ranges from flyovers, roads, estates to edifices. The cityscape is dominated by massive office complexes, high-rise residential buildings, shopping malls and business Ventures, vast pockets of upscale housing estates, local markets, hotels, parks etc.
Since 2015, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s infrastructural renewal coupled with his deliberate measures for a peaceful State are beginning to produce immense results and Enugu State is now a first-choice destination for Conferences, Seminars/workshops, tourism and investment.
