Enugu is a city on a hill. A city built in splendor and with the glory of God residing within. As the capital of the old Anambra State, it never failed to attract the creme de la creme of Igbo elites and business Executives who considered it as a city of harmony where one would readily retire to. In effect, Enugu city is still to the Igbos what Kaduna is to the Northern elites. It is with this sense of pride that the joy of the people knew no bound when Enugu was given a state status by the administration of the former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida Rtd on August 27, 1991. Regrettably, despite efforts by successive governments which comprises both military and civilian administrators, Enugu city has declined in infrastructural defects and aesthetics until about six years ago when the current administration of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi came to power. Interestingly, he showed early signs to change the narrative of infrastructural defects and halt Enugu from further decline. Six years down the road, there are visible signs that Enugu is steadily being steered back to it’s former glory courtesy of Gov. Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi. Ndi Enugu are truly awed to no end about the infrastructural and other developmental trajectories of Ugwuanyi led administration in the last six years.
For a leader who adopted the mantra of Enugu as a state in the hands of the omnipotent God, the ground was set to actualize the responsibilities of his government according to God’s own plan and direction. To firmly place Enugu in God’s hands, a state of the art Chapel of grace was built at the Lion Building, the seat of power. And here we are Ndi Enugu. A city on a hill is fast gaining it’s importance in a manner unwitnessed before. Recently, another flagship project was flagged off in the Enugu metropolis. It was the 750 housing units billed to accommodate the massive Enugu public servants when completed.
Again, last week, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi accompanied by the commissioner for Housing and Development, Hon. Vitus Okechi, went on inspection tour of the ongoing massive development at one of Enugu’s largest housing projects, “The New Enugu City” which would be built in three phases on a massive land area measuring about 2,667 hectares. The Executive Governor while inspecting the level of work at the site of the development promised that the “Housing Project”, would be fitted with ultramodern facilities like dual carriageway roads of about 24m, 25m and 12m widths with over 20 culverts, a modern hospital facility, recreational centers, estate plots, international market, worship centers, organized open spaces, shopping malls, mixed used development plots, central business district (CBD) on completion of the project. It cannot be really argued that this project remains one of the largest single project embarked upon by any political leader in the South East Zone of Nigeria.
Governor Ugwuanyi is truly a workaholic leader. No week passes without one project or another being initiated or flagged off in his bid to fulfill his campaign promises to return Enugu to it’s past glory. One thing is sure though – that going by his antecedents coupled with his prudent use of resources, all projects initiated and begun would be completed before he bows out proudly in 2023.
Still in the same vein of beautifying the city of Enugu, Mr. FULFILMENT, embarked on building and painting modern Bus stops for the commuting public. Recall that the great leader of our time had gifted the people of Enugu an amusement and relaxation park “The Unity Park” , built to help residents kill depression and manage stress because “all works and no play, still makes “Jack a dull boy”
Erosion control and protection work across all prone sites are still on going especially at Ekulu Bridge, Abakpa-Nike where the State ministry of works and infrastructure is working hard to ensure that the public are served better and that lives and properties of citizens are protected. It is remarkable that the great Lion of our time does not just award contracts, he supervises all ongoing projects on 24/7 basis to put the contractors on their toes.
May God continue to protect the people’s governor and reward him with good health of mind and body for making his mark in the governance of Enugu State.
Surely Enugu State is in the hands of God.
