….. Appreciating the rare virtues.

No matter the abrasiveness of any political atmosphere, I know it will take some substantial discipline and courage to emerge as a leader worthy of attention as I am as well so convinced that humility is the height of discipline. Even with a careless observation, any willing critic of Governor IFEANYI UGWUANYI’S government would notice that it must have taken the leader an impressive level of disciplined humility to attain all the waves of fascinations enveloping his reign as the Executive Governor of Enugu State.

Being not just a staunch christian but a humanitarian, Governor Ugwuanyi; a.k.a. Mr. Fulfillment knew ab initio that pride goes before fall while God would always take delight and glory in lifting the humble and decided to grip firmly to the virtue of humility as he navigates through the uncertain waters of political leadership.

Governor Ugwuanyi must have seen the grave and negative implications of pride in the management of the overall destiny of the good people of Enugu State and beyond before opting to trim the rough and tough edges of the pride in every man but today underpinning his political career are dots and patterns of resounding and resourceful echoes of accomplishments cutting across all sectors and platforms and for that I dare propose that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s reign is a case worthy of scholastic scrutiny with regards to the essence of humility in leadership.

Before I go down memory lane, having scented the colourful flowers of the Enugu State 2021 Budget, I know it must have taken a lot of discipline, sense of responsibility and humility for this government to agree to review and revisit the forlorn International Conference Centre and most of the abandoned projects started by the previous governments because a typical proud fellow would have chosen to go for brand new projects which might be bogus without getting the job completed at the end of the day but today, thanks for Gburu’s innovativeness in harvesting the golden values of humility in governance.

If not humility, what else would drive this government to undertake to erect brand new and aesthetically garnished bus stops right across the Coal City of Enugu after the wanton destruction of the essential facilities during the hijacked #ENDSARS protests that rocked the nation last year? I doubt whether a man of arrogance would take such steps.

When this team of professionals and technocrats led by Governor IFEANYI UGWUANYI learnt that there are parties and groups of individuals gearing to forment troubles and engineer violence in the state, they bent low to study the problems, only to raise their heads to profer solutions and celebrate peaceful environment and of course no one needs to be lectured on why Enugu State is today the investment destination of contemporary investors, developers and entrepreneurs. So, we now understand how Enugu State keep emerging as one of the few states in Nigeria, economically viable enough to survive even without the federal government allocations; it was never magical but a product of humility.

Would a character whose mind is swayed by sycophantic epithets be sound and stable enough to consider taking development deep further into the remote areas? No, such person would believe that concentrating development within the urban areas where more population reside would raise his rank more in the rating index among the elites but thank God Mr. Project had a uniquely designed reasoning that is today opening the villages to global standards. Today, a native of Ette in Igbo-Eze North visiting home for Yuletide celebration would not go back to Lagos in haste without considering a business opportunity to harness in his village because of the availability of good roads, pipe-borne water and electricity at home. Today, an Okro farmer from Mpu in Aninri Local Government Area will not be reluctant to go to New Market, Enugu to achieve lucrative sales because access roads have been provided by a leader whose joy emanates from fulfilling his duties and obligations; Governor IFEANYI UGWUANYI and that has been possible because it pays to have a humble leader.

What of the existing harmonious political relationship among party stalwarts and their followers today? If not for a humble soul like Gburu Gburu, who else would accommodate the interests of both his loyalists and opponents within a round table and still succeed as a leader? You need to attend occasions organised by parties you had previously assumed to be opposing groups to this government in order to learn how erroneous you have been as they would be showering praises and encomiums on His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his accommodations and suprising provisions. You might even be tempted to question his loyalty to his party but that can only come from a man of large heart, abundant love and humility. That can only come from ODOZI OBODO.

When evidence abound one would need little or no stress in selecting one because in terms of accomplishments and developmental strides being recorded under the administration of Governor IFEANYI UGWUANYI, one would only need to look around him or her to note down one sound and epic meal served by the state government but it is not the primary driving focus of this exposé to unleash the whole projects of Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration as each achievement does not only speak for itself but remains Sui Generis: unique to its environment and the overriding significance of this literary outing is to admonish emerging leaders to take a religious observation of the strategic humility of Governor IFEANYI UGWUANYI for teaching and demonstrating through examplary leadership models that true and worthwhile conquest and victory can actually be tapped from stooping low and being humble.
