His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi The Executive Governor of Enugu State, in his maiden inaugural address on 29th May, 2015 proclaimed that his divinely appointed mission, is to bring good news, message of continued hope, peace and development to the people, to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to every Wawa man caught up in the prison of poverty and under development. He promised to deploy government services to create fair and equal opportunity for every willing citizen to make a living and create wealth.
As a promise keeper, Governor Ugwuanyi made Rural Development one of the cardinal policies of his administration targeted at improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in the rural area. This unique policy, apart from creating semi urban areas to urban areas has also succeeded at creating reducing rural-urban migration. It is equally a strategy that enhances improved productivity; promote higher socio-economic equality as well socio-economic development. The Administration of Governor Ugwuanyi in the last six years, has worked his talk, especially in our rural area by constructing and reconstructing the following rural roads: Ugbawka, Nara, Nkerefi, Idodo, Amagunze, Ogonogo-eji- Akpugo, Eha Amufu, Ikem roads with bridge at Abonyi River. It also dualized the Opi-Nsuka road, the Udenu Ring roads from Ohom-Orba, Imilike Enu, Imilike Ani, Ezimo, Obollo-Etiti roads. Others include the Enugu-Ngwo Miliken hill, Ekochin, Ama-eke Ngwo, Ama Brewery bye-pass, Ninth mile, Ngwo Nsude Link, Inyi Akpugoeze, Ibuzo, Amokwe, Station roads.
In the area of Health care delivery the governor gave serious impetus to by the improvement and upgrading some cottage hospitals to District hospitals, and District hospitals to general hospitals. Today, Enugu State has 6 district hospitals, 36 cottage hospitals and 366 primary health care centres. To strengthen the health sector Uguwanyi last year awarded contract for the construction of 7 units of Type-3 primary health care centres in the 7 rural local government areas of Ezeagu, Igbo-etiti, Igbo-eze south, Isi-Uzo, Udenu and Uzo-uwani. These 7 units of Type-3 primary health care centres have been completed.
Again, with the out-break of Covid 19 pandemic the state government, renovated 34 health facilities and supplied essentials across the 17 local government areas, to scale-up delivery of linked services and preparedness against spread of Covid 19, through Enugu State Save One Million Lives (ESOML) Project.
The Ugwuanyi administration on 15th October, 2016 equally flagged off one hundred million naira project each in 17 local government areas. These projects which includes road rehabilitation/construction, hospitals, schools, water boreholes, cottage industries, has been completed and commissioned, for effective utilization of the rural communities.
The community-driven development projects of one community one project scheme of the Governor, where over 400 communities in Enugu State got N10 million each for execution of project of their choice was truly innovative and people-oriented. It is on record that the scheme recorded over 80 percent success. Similarly, Rural Access & Mobility Project (RAMP II) under Ugwuanyi’s watch constructed about 450 kilometers of roads in 16 rural local government areas, with 49.1 kilometers of the roads asphalted. In Isi-Uzo and Uzo-uwani, RAMP II also constructed 23 bridges, 2 Bailey bridges.
The six years of Governor Ugwuanyi under review in partnership with FADAMA III. AF supported 1,709 rice farmers in 6 rice producing rural local government areas with seeds and agro chemicals valued at #89.5 million. Another 98 rural farmers, women and youths were trained by Enugu State government in collaboration with World Bank on Agro Entrepreneurial.
Business in fruits, rice and maize chain were supported with #2,500.000.00 each. These rural roads has helped in opening up many vast farm lands/settlements, farmers now transport their products to the market with ease.
Governor Ugwuanyi transformative agenda in the last six years has attracted the recognitions and awards from Leading National Newspapers, such as the Vanguard, The Sun, Daily Independent and Leadership as Best Governor of the year Award, in Grassroot Development. The Governor’s wife Mrs. Monica Ugochi Ugwuanyi has equally complemented the state government drive in the area of empowering the rural women empowerment, as well as waging war against Gender Base Violence (GBV).
Mention must be made of the symbiotic working relationship between our beloved Governor and his deputy Lolo Cecilia Ezeilo, who has been variously been described excellent and worthy of emulation. Your Excellency, you are indeed the peoples’ governor. Once again congratulations! Happy second year anniversary of your second tenure in office.
