In what could best be described as pure mischief from the agent provocateurs and disgruntled oppositional elements, citizens of Enugu State were once again assailed with stench smelling perfidy indicating that the political appointments made by his Excellency, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi since his assumption of office in 2015 was highly tilted in favour of a section of the state. What a wicked lie against a man who was generally acknowledged to be an agent of peace, inclusiveness and detribalized leader. Governor Ugwuanyi remains a good example of “enye ndi ebea, enye ndi ebea” .
A critical examination of the effects of lies in a progressive society as articulated by seasoned scholars like Scott maintained that lying is a critical agent of destabilization and destruction of the very fabrics of the society. It not only creates problems, it threatens people’s self-worth by preventing them from seeing themselves as good people and generally erode trust in the society. When we decide to lie, we whittle down the values of honesty and integrity. Lying deeply damages relationship.
While it is important to acknowledge that all is fair in war as postulated by war veterans, elevating campaign of calumny against a visible good leader to a state art all in an attempt to discredit him or create access to ascend a political throne speaks volume of the unholy nature of the political actors in our clime. It is simply despicable!
Again let me emphasize that any profit made through the instrumentality of falsehood remains a quicksand and may not endure. Aspiring to a political position remains a process which should be built on integrity, credibility and wholesomeness and not through character assassination of another to gain whatever position.
Thankfully, Ndi Enugu have been reading in between the lines and have been impelled to reject the falsehood peddled around by never do well politicians.
The all time African nationalist, Nelson Mandela revealed his craving for an ideal democratic society in which all persons should live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is important to note that Ugwuanyi himself has remained a good apostle of this Mandela’s philosophy and has demonstrated in more ways than one that only what is best is good for Ndi Enugu, politically, economically and otherwise. Under Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration, Enugu State has never had it so good. All the appointments made by his administration has been a combination of class, competence, skill and balance of clannish interests. Equal opportunities were given to all senatorial zones in the state with competence and intellectual capacities given ample considerations. As a man whose character is imbued by honesty and peace, governor Ugwuanyi’s administration does not favour any side in his appointment. He maximizes the efforts from across the senatorial zones in the state and focuses on making good decision that benefits everyone, not just few. He is the only governor that has translated dreams of Ndi Enugu of zoning and equal opportunities into reality. In the light of his good deeds, I call upon all peace lovers in Enugu state to rise against all forms of fake news bandied about our amiable governor (gburugburu), lest the mischief makers mire his good name in the mud.
We are wiser than them. Enugu State is in the hands of God.
